JOB OBJECTIVE(S): To lead and control daily production operations across the Autos, Press, and Plating sections to ensure: • Safe operations • On-time delivery • Required production volumes • Correct quality standards • Controlled costs The role is accountable for shift performance, people supervision, workflow stability, achieving production targets, and maintaining ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 compliance within the assigned area. Technical knowledge supports the role, but operational execution and team leadership are the primary focus. MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Achieving production performance through • Executing the daily production plan • Meeting hourly, daily, and weekly output targets • Monitoring line performance and taking immediate corrective action • Identifying and removing bottlenecks • Balancing labour and equipment to maximise throughput • Driving recovery plans when targets are missed • Recording and reporting accurate production data • Ensuring correct staffing and shift coverage Ensuring that quality is in accordance with requirements • Producing components to specification first time • Enforcing compliance with the Quality Management System • Stopping defects at source • Investigating and correcting root causes of quality issues • Ensuring correct identification, labelling, and traceability • Managing rework and scrap reduction Ensuring that machines and equipment are suitably maintained • Ensuring operator care and basic maintenance is performed • Reporting breakdowns immediately • Coordinating with maintenance to minimise downtime • Supporting TPM and preventative maintenance activities Staff supervision and discipline • Leading, directing, and supervising operators and team members • Setting daily expectations and performance standards • Coaching, training, and developing employees • Managing attendance and absenteeism • Addressing misconduct and poor performance in line with company procedures • Ensuring skills coverage and cross-training Stock and system control • Ensuring ERP and production system accuracy • Controlling work orders and material flow • Managing WIP levels • Ensuring scrap and rejects are processed correctly • Supporting inventory accuracy Roll out of Lean manufacturing principles • Maintaining housekeeping standards • Implementing and sustaining 5S • Using visual management • Identifying and eliminating waste • Driving small daily improvements to productivity and cost Day-to-day responsibilities • Conduct shift start-up meetings • Allocate work and resources • Perform regular line walkabouts • Monitor output and downtime • Troubleshoot production issues on the floor • Liaise with Quality, Maintenance, and Planning • Report daily results and escalate risks early This is a hands-on shopfloor leadership role. Ensuring a safe working environment • Enforcing safe work procedures and PPE compliance • Complying with legal and company safety requirements • Acting on hazards and incidents immediately • Accepting responsibility for appointed safety duties • Promoting safe behaviours and accountability
PROCESS BASIC EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Formal schooling / qualification • Qualification in Operations Management, Production Management, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (essential) Experience • Minimum 5 years’ experience in high volume manufacturing • Minimum 2 years’ experience supervising production teams • Proven experience managing production targets, labour, and workflow Advantageous • Technical or trade qualification • Experience in press, plating, or automated manufacturing environments
