“We are a very strong team, built on a high level of commitment and mutual trust.”
Maximilian F.

Head of Engineering & Control

Please briefly introduce yourself and your career path.

After completing my high school diploma, I began an apprenticeship as an aircraft mechanic and subsequently studied Industrial Engineering with a focus on Production Technology. During my studies, I joined Rheinmetall as a working student in the production and, after graduation, took on a role as a Manufacturing Engineer in the field of welding technology. In 2021, I became Project Manager Operations, overseeing the launch of several new projects, the maintenance of tracked vehicle systems, and assemblies. Since the spring of 2024, I have been Head of Engineering & Control, responsible for the areas of production planning, production control, industrial engineering, and diagnosis.

What are your daily tasks?

Varied. I spend a lot of time in coordination meetings with my teams, but also with other departments such as engineering, procurement or quality, to discuss projects and operational processes at Rheinmetall. Additionally, I strive to take care of my employees’ concerns, support them with both small and large challenges, recruit new employees, and provide individual guidance and development.

What technical and personal qualifications should applicants bring if they plan their career at Rheinmetall?

Respect, a healthy level of assertiveness, intercultural competence, and an interest in technology are essential.

The Operations department encompasses production and manufacturing-related activities, such as Project Management Operations, Diagnosis, as well as the departments of Engineering & Control, Operations Excellence, and Property & Infrastructure. Below, some of our employees will share their daily work experiences at Rheinmetall:

Production Engineer

Please briefly introduce yourself and your career path.

After completing the 10th grade, I had to choose between starting an apprenticeship or continuing with my high school education. When I received the offer from Rheinmetall, the decision was made. After my apprenticeship, I spent several years in production and assessment. For the past three years, I have been working with the Operations Kassel Experts, now known as Production Engineers. Throughout my career, I have often worked abroad, including in the Netherlands, Australia, England, and Algeria. Additionally, I completed a master craftsman's certificate and various smaller further training courses. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor’s in Business Administration. I’ve been with Rheinmetall for 13 years.

What tasks/projects from recent times stand out to you and why?

Definitely my international assignments. I’ve been to Algeria, the Netherlands, England, and Australia. This experience was unlike my regular work at the Kassel site, as every day brought something new. I look back on those times fondly!

Which Rheinmetall product fascinates you and why?

I’m fascinated by the Boxer, as I spent most of my time working with this vehicle.

Welding Specialist

How did you come to Rheinmetall?

Before applying to Rheinmetall, I had already gained a wide range of experience in manual work. I always enjoyed the different tasks, and I could apply my skills effectively. In 2002, I worked at a Rheinmetall site for an external company, initially on the Transrapid project. I liked the work environment, the processes, and the tasks appealed to me. Furthermore, my military service, which I completed by 1995, had already sparked my interest in the metal and steel industry. That’s why in 2005, I applied to Rheinmetall as a welding specialist. I wanted to take on a new challenge, and Rheinmetall gave me this opportunity. I initially worked in a different division, but since 2007, I have been with Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH.

Why do you enjoy going to work? What motivates you and brings you joy?

At Rheinmetall, no two days are the same, there is always something new and exciting to do. What I particularly enjoy is that we are able to accompany various projects from start to finish and actually work on each individual vehicle that is part of the signed contract.

Rheinmetall places great emphasis on development and personal growth. For instance, I was given the opportunity to support the setup of a new production line abroad as part of a large project. My work was highly appreciated, and I was able to make an important contribution. Additionally, I had the opportunity to get to know different sites in Germany and gain new experiences.

What sets Rheinmetall apart as an employer in your opinion?

I’ve gathered many different experiences throughout my career, and at Rheinmetall, I have certainly found the most varied job. My broad knowledge and experience are valued here, and the performance we deliver every day is not taken for granted.

I also highly appreciate the opportunity to get to know our international sites. Here, I can apply my knowledge flexibly and pass it on to younger colleagues. I enjoy the cooperation and the team spirit at this location. Additionally, I truly value the job security, and the collective agreements ensure good pay and offer attractive benefits.

Project Manager Operations

How did you come to Rheinmetall?

After completing my training as a mechatronics technician, I furthered my education to become a state-certified mechanical engineering technician. In parallel with my job as a production equipment designer, I completed a degree in technical business administration in evening school. I then gained experience in project management across Europe. However, after this career path ended due to a serious illness, I became active in the job application process again — including applying to Rheinmetall. In hindsight, despite all the circumstances, this turned out to be a fortunate moment.

By maintaining my network, staying in touch with recruiters, and attending a career fair (Bundeswehr Career Day), I was able to successfully join Rheinmetall through an external service provider. The contract was signed on a Friday, and by the following Monday, I started my first day in Kassel.

Why did you choose to work at Rheinmetall?

As a teenager, I was heavily involved with vehicle technology, restoring classic tractors with friends. My interest in vehicle technology continues to this day as part of my hobbies. My basic military service sparked my interest in the Bundeswehr, which continues today, as I am an active reservist in my free time. A factory tour in Unterlüß with the reservists many years ago strengthened my interest in Rheinmetall.

For this reason, I wanted to do something related to this professionally. It is important to me to fully identify with both the products and the employer. Additionally, the professional prospects, personal development opportunities, job security, and last but not least, the tradition and high reputation of Rheinmetall made it my ideal employer. I found my desired employer!

What excites you about your daily work?

I want to meet the customer requirements, both internal and external. For me, it is very valuable to work with my colleagues and achieve great results together. This is also what defines the Kassel site. There is a healthy mix of highly experienced and young employees, and helpfulness is highly valued here. Additionally, the diversity of the portfolio regarding vehicles and components worked on at this site is exciting. The size of the plant and the number of employees are simply impressive.

My typical workday combines a high degree of communication with interdisciplinary interfaces and independent work. I plan many tasks using project management tools, adjust the planning, and align it with others. The exchange with colleagues is essential, as they all bring a wealth of experience and expertise.

Rheinmetall has proven to be crisis-resistant, particularly during the COVID period. There was no risk of job loss. On the contrary, the workload is high, and the outlook is positive. Through the Corona Action Teams, a quick response was made, for example, employees were provided with small “care packages” (masks, etc.), which I found very considerate and exemplary. Additionally, for me as a commuter with a 150 km daily journey, the flexible solutions for remote working were especially valuable.
