Interview: Matthias Hocher, Lead Buyer
Matthias Hocher is 38 years old and works as a Lead Buyer at the Rheinmetall site in Neckarsulm. He gives you an insight into his daily work as a buyer.

I have now been working at Rheinmetall for five years as a "Lead Buyer Invest & NPM". This means that in the non-production materials purchasing department of our business unit, I am responsible for the product group of production equipment and machining tools. In addition, I am the central buyer of the machining tools commodity group within the entire Rheinmetall Group and bear responsibility for its strategic orientation.

Before joining Rheinmetall, I worked as a Strategic Buyer for a smaller company. Due to the group structure and the global orientation of Rheinmetall with the necessary coordination, my current function is much more challenging, focused and involves more responsibility. I am responsible for the procurement of investments and cutting equipment worldwide, including negotiations and contract design, as well as defining the commodity group strategy, i.e. the Rheinmetall-wide coordination of requirements and possible bundling.

So far, I have not regretted my move to Rheinmetall. The pleasant working conditions and challenging tasks, such as the international working environment, create exciting conditions for working at Rheinmetall.
“For me, the excellent and collegial cooperation between the buyers from the various Group divisions in my area is particularly noteworthy. Coordinating and negotiating as a team for the entire Group makes the work interesting and varied.”
Matthias Hocher

Lead Buyer at Rheinmetall in Neckarsulm

The collegial atmosphere at work, the great cooperation with colleagues and the varied tasks create attractive conditions for me as an employee, which are complemented by further freedom and development opportunities.

I have a two-year-old daughter. In this context, I enjoy the freedom to flexibly divide my working hours and work from home. On such days, I either take our daughter to daycare in the morning or pick her up in the afternoon. I then consciously take time for my daughter and, if necessary, can work in the evening when my daughter is asleep. Of course, the same applies to hobbies. I like to go for a run in the morning. When I work from home, it is much easier to integrate into the day because there is no half-hour drive to the office.

In our department, the hybrid work model is very flexible. I am usually at the office 3 days per week and work from home on the other two days. Of course, this depends on supplier appointments or business trips.

During the last five years, I have been able to participate in various courses and further training. In particular, participation in the Rheinmetall Negotiation Certificate and the Young Manager Program have helped me enormously, both personally and professionally, and prepared me for future management tasks.

Interview: Carsten Klebe, Corporate Controlling Officer

Carsten Klebe began a six-month internship in Corporate Controlling at Rheinmetall AG in Düsseldorf at the end of 2021. The 29-year-old was taken on subsequently and is now responsible for the companies of the Power Systems division as a subsidiary controller.

I became aware of Rheinmetall through the positive feedback of my friend Jonas Lütke-Holz, who works as an HR controller in the Group. Today, we work as colleagues in Group Controlling at Rheinmetall AG.

As a listed international technology group, Rheinmetall appealed to me as an employer because, as an industrial engineer, I have a keen interest in technology and finance. In addition, I am also privately involved with the stock market and shares.

“As an innovative technology group, Rheinmetall offers me the ideal environment to live out my enthusiasm for technology and business.”
Carsten Klebe

Corporate Controlling Officer at Rheinmetall in Düsseldorf

My job gives me great pleasure! Thanks to the diverse and challenging tasks in cooperation with a competent and collegial team, I have the optimal opportunity to continuously develop professionally and personally.

In addition to my function as contact person for the Power Systems division, as Investment Controller I prepare, among other things, the Group's management reporting, which serves the Executive Board as a basis for decision-making.

Contributing to the planning process, preparing ad-hoc inquiries and profitability analyses for the Executive Board, as well as implementing and further developing processes, are also part of my job as Corporate Controller at Rheinmetall.

I currently work in a hybrid work model, i.e. part time at the office and part time at home. Working from home allows me to use the travel time I save for my sport. I spend my free time at the tennis court or go for a run.

Through cross-departmental exchanges, I get to know many new work colleagues, which also gives me the opportunity to take different perspectives and share experiences. Regular workshops and team events at the various Rheinmetall sites are another reason why I identify with Rheinmetall and enjoy going to work. The transformation of the automotive sector and the "change of era" within the defense industry that has been "heralded" since the beginning of the year will continue to make for an exciting day at work in the future and always guarantee the necessary enthusiasm for my work.
