Lynx XM30 Combat Vehicle

American Rheinmetall is designing a new combat vehicle that leverages Rheinmetall’s Lynx KF41 as the point of departure for their concept, which supports the U.S. Army’s modernization efforts being pursued through the XM30 Combat Vehicle program – formerly designated as the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV) program. In order to accommodate the rapid growth associated with their offering, American Rheinmetall has expanded their Michigan/Ohio based operations and continues to build their team. Driven by strong and consistent growth, this early investment initiative demonstrates Rheinmetall’s commitment to the XM30 program and the U.S. Army.

Evolution of the Lynx

Rheinmetall’s Lynx next-generation combat vehicle has come a long way in less than five years' time. Starting from the drawing board, both KF31 and KF41 types were brought to life and travelled the world going through extensive trials along the way. Now, Hungary has become the launch customer ordering 218 vehicles after having signed a joint venture agreement with Rheinmetall. A strong signal to those eying the most advanced IFV to date.

Delivering for the U.S. Army’s highest modernization priorities

The fielding of a next-generation combat vehicle is a top priority for the U.S. Army. Maintaining overmatch and a competitive advantage against emerging threats is crucial. The Army’s XM30 program must deliver a combat vehicle (CV) with overwhelming close combat capabilities that’s capable of operating in crewed and uncrewed modes. American Rheinmetall’s Lynx XM30 provides the most modern firepower, protection, mobility, and power generation capabilities available to ensure the Army can fight and win against any foe.

American Rheinmetall, Textron Systems, RTX, L3Harris Technologies, Allison Transmission, and Anduril Industries are digitally designing America’s next-generation combat vehicle.

A winning solution

Rheinmetall's Lynx is the most advanced infantry fighting vehicle available to global defense customers. Its next-generation design and future focused modularity are already proving highly desirable by countries currently interested in modernizing their IFV fleets.

Hungary

Hungary is the first NATO country to deploy the Lynx. A contract for 218 vehicles and 7 variants was signed in 2020. The plant in Zalaegerszeg opened in August 2023 and is considered the most modern centre of excellence in Europe for the production of tracked vehicles.

Italy

Italy has been testing the Lynx since early 2025 as part of the Armoured Infantry Combat Systems (AICS) program. In 2024, Rheinmetall and Leonardo founded the joint venture Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles (LRMV), based in Rome and operating in La Spezia. The plan is to produce 1.050 vehicles until 2040, with a focus on integrating Leonardo's Hitfist (30 mm) and Hitfact (120 mm) turrets.
