NVL B.V. & Co. KG
Maritime solutions in surface shipbuilding
About us
As part of Rheinmetall, NVL B.V. & Co. KG (NVL) offers tailor-made, intelligent and cost-efficient shipbuilding solutions from a single source. We offer our customers, employees and partners a dynamic and future-oriented environment.
We contribute our wealth of experience by listening carefully to our customers and translating their ideas and specific requirements into high-quality naval vessels, coastguard vessels, and services.
At NVL, we support fleets throughout their entire life cycle, thereby helping to keep the German Navy and navies worldwide mission-ready at all times. The construction at our network of shipyards is supplemented by licensed manufacture at customer facilities around the world under technology transfer arrangements
NVL is also a pioneer in the research and development of autonomous maritime surface systems for military and civil applications and provides its customers with comprehensive solutions in the field of manned/unmanned teaming (MUM-T).
As a specialist in the design and manufacture of technologically complex naval vessels and coast guard vessels, the NVL is responsible for the ongoing procurement programmes for five new corvettes (as lead contractor), two new replenishment oilers and three new intelligence vessels for the German Navy.
The contracting authority has also commissioned NVL to examine the takeover of the new construction project for a total of six new Class 126 frigates as general contractor. Once the review process has been completed and the project is expected to continue under Rheinmetall's leadership, NVL would bring this extensive and complex shipbuilding project for the German Navy to completion in a position of responsibility.

Four shipyards – One goal
With four strategically well-placed shipyards, NVL has the state-of-the-art facilities required to produce high-quality vessels that deliver superior levels of performance. A total of 13 docks, ranging from 118 to 351 metres, modern shipbuilding halls and workshops, and a dedicated workforce of specialists are all on hand to build and support naval vessels and coastguard vessels. Their performance is then sustained throughout their life cycles with the expertise of NVL Services. We are happy to assist you in keeping your fleet operational at all times. Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss your individual requirements.

In line with their individual histories, locations and facilities, our shipyards are specialised in their respective fields within the defence industry. Our new-build activities are centred at our renowned shipyards Peene-Werft in Wolgast and Blohm+Voss in Hamburg. Norderwerft in Hamburg and Neue Jadewerft in Wilhelmshaven are dedicated to repairs, refits and modernisations of naval vessels and auxiliary ships. With Hamburg being an important port for commercial vessels worldwide, Norderwerft takes care of all types of commercial projects.
The four shipyards of NVL are aligned with one another to leverage synergy effects. This not only encompasses cross-shipyard procurement processes, it also means specialists are available at all times to support individual shipyard projects. The result: a high level of expertise and cost-saving shipyard operations for producing high-quality ships.
Internationally, NVL is represented by engineering offices and operations in Egypt, Brunei, Bulgaria, Croatia and Singapore.
System integration
The integration of all on-board systems – including command and control equipment, weapons, sensors, the propulsion plant and ship services – is an important part of our construction process.
We focus on the effective interaction of each individual system within a design’s overall architecture to ensure that your ship operates as a completely integrated entity. At NVL, we also make certain that your vessel will operate seamlessly with existing fleet assets as well as with ships from other navies during joint operations.
