Our Projects at Rheinmetall Technical Publications

We have demonstrated our decades of experience and expertise during numerous projects. We mainly provide support for systems and products in the form of technical documentation and logistic support services. Designed for military or civil use, these services are performed directly on behalf of procurement agencies or industrial enterprises on a national and international level. Our certification as a military aeronautical company allows us to include aeronautical developments among our projects.

In our civil projects, our focus is on aerospace engineering. We have demonstrated our specialist expertise in technical documentation and logistic support services in numerous projects for our main client Airbus.
We also have experience in renewable energies. The following project examples offer an overview of our services.

Civil aviation
488
We provide technical documentation and support services for the entire Airbus product family from single-aisle programs and the A380 wide-bodied airliner through to the A350XWB.
Our experienced employees support our clients with new and revised documentations.
  • Service Bulletins
  • Maintenance manuals
  • Structural repair manuals
  • Troubleshooting and repair
  • Circuit diagrams
  • Spare parts catalogues
  • Special documents
Renewable energies
489
We produce interactive electronic technical documentation (IETD) for companies in the energy sector. Guidelines and standards from the aerospace industry are applied directly to the energy sector combined with guidelines and specifications for renewable energies. We offer the following as part of our "Mob4Doc“ (Mobility for Documentation) sales drive:
  • Market-oriented solutions for on-duty engineers
  • Video-supported description
  • Implementation of multiple languages

We manage a large number of projects in the military sector: land and anti-aircraft systems, naval systems and military aeronautical systems such as helicopters and the Airbus A400M. The following project examples give an overview of our services.

Land systems
490
We provide logistic support services for the Boxer, the world's most advanced armoured transport vehicle with all-wheel drive. All logistics-relevant system data are prepared in a common source database and provided exactly where they are needed. This data is used for operating and maintenance manuals and illustrated spare parts catalogues as per ASD S1000D and S2000M international standards.

Our services include:
  • Preparation of interactive electronic technical documentation (IETD)
  • Operating and maintenance manuals, illustrated spare parts catalogues
  • Undertaking ILS management responsibility, coordination and control
Helicopters
491
We are responsible for technical logistic support for the two naval helicopters Sea King MK 41 and Sea Lynx Mk88A and for the German Federal Armed Forces' medium-sized CH-53 transport helicopter. As part of these services, we provide:
  • Preparation of interactive electronic technical documentation (IETD
  • Preparation of descriptive documentation and spare parts catalogues with graphics as per ASD S1000D and S2000M specifications.
A400M
492
We deliver technical documentation and support services for the Airbus Defence and Space A400M program. In doing so, we are responsible for comprehensive documentation packages in the following areas:
  • Maintenance and operating manuals
  • Structural repair manuals
  • Troubleshooting and repair
  • Non-destructive testing
  • Spare parts catalogues
Naval systems
494
We handle projects for different naval systems, including U209, U212A and U214 submarines, F123 and F124 frigates and the Seafox marine drone. We provide technical documentation and logistic support services for these systems. Our services include:
  • Preparation of interactive electronic technical documentation (IETD)
  • Support for logistics concepts and questions, full life cycle support

As an Approved Aeronautical Organization, we provide technical-logistic support for military projects.
This includes services relating to type-certification, system support for the CH-53, MK41 and MK88a helicopters as well as comprehensive system support for the KZO target localization UAV.

System support services for the MK 88a Sea Lynx helicopter footrest relate to development, manufacture and maintenance.

Since early 2019, RTP has additionally been tasked with providing system support for the observation and reconnaissance system BAS 2000 for the Sea King MK41 helicopter, and the engine test rigs GNOME (Sea King MK41) and GEM (Sea Lynx MK88a).

Some of the services delivered by RTP are outlined in the following project examples.

System Support in connection with logistic support services (type certification documents)
469
For the helicopters CH-53, Mk41 und Mk 88a, RTP – as the system support company and/or prime contractor – is responsible for logistic support services needed in connection with the type certification (i.e. type certification documents).
Footrest set for the Sea Lynx Mk88A
495
RTP provides system support of the footrest mission equipment kit used by Special Forces on the Sea Lynx Mk88a helicopter. The footrest is used to secure airborne personnel leaning out of
the helicopter in flight. In this project, the service covers development, manufacture and maintenance of the product.
Target Localization UAV (KZO)
496
In the field of technical logistic support services under the Support Services Catalog (BLK), RTP – as the system support contractor for the target localization UAV (KZO) – manages numerous subcontractors under contract to the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAIINBw).

RTP warrants the mission readiness of the system and has rendered support services for ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) in Afghanistan for more than 1,000 mission flights.
Observation and Reconnaissance System BAS 2000 for the Sea King Mk41
497
RTP started to provide system support for the Observation and Reconnaissance System BAS 2000 at the beginning of 2019. The BAS 2000 system on the Sea King Mk41 naval helicopter helps pilots to perform e.g. SAR (search and rescue) operations, international missions (e.g. for KFOR, ISAF) or domestic operations (e.g. assistance during emergencies in the event of flooding or for disaster control purposes).

RTP’s technical logistic support services under the Support Services Catalog (BLK) encompass full-scope product development and maintenance for the BAS 2000.
Engine Test Rigs GNOME (Sea King Mk41) and GEM (Sea Lynx Mk 88 A)
Technical logistic support under the Support Services Catalog (BLK) for the engine test rigs GNOME (Sea King Mk41) and GEM (Sea Lynx Mk 88 A) involves development work. RTP is also responsible for in situ service, maintenance and overhaul of the two test rigs for the German Naval Air Wing (MFG 3 and 5) in Nordholz, Germany.

EN9100 Zertifizierung 2019

The EN9100 re-certification audit by DNV-GL took place in March 2019. All RTP sites were audited, whilst development, manufacture and maintenance were audited at the Bremen site. The audit confirmed the EN9100 certification for the “Development, manufacture, purchase, maintenance and service, including technical-logistic analysis and documentation of systems and components for aerospace, land-borne and maritime systems” as per EN9100.

501
MSD-V3 (Maintenance Support Device - Version 3)
502
The MSD-V3 device supports maintenance and repair of the Patriot weapon system. RTP provides hardware and software support under a maintenance framework agreement.
Manned Gyrocopter System M24 (PLUTO)
503
One of RTP’s non-military projects is the manned gyrocopter M24 (PLUTO) system with its variable equipment. RTP is conducting research and development on the system’s avionics, opto-electronics, sensory as well as drive and fuel systems.
Unmanned air-supported reconnaissance system (LUNA NG and LUNA UAS)
1106
LUNA NG – Airborne Reconnaissance System

The LUNA NG unmanned aircraft is the latest element in the LUNA system for real-time airborne surveillance, detection and tracking. With its ultra-light but highly stable fuselage structure made of CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastic), it offers a flight time of over 12 hours – and with its data link range of over 100km, it achieves a spatial coverage of more than 30,000 km2.

LUNA UAS – Air Reconnaissance and Surveillance System

The LUNA drone system for unmanned aerial reconnaissance is a sophisticated solution for real-time surveillance, detection and tracking.

It has proven itself in missions around the globe thanks to a flight time of 6 hours (optionally 8) and a range of >100km, which can be increased by SatCom.
