About the Team

Located in Redbank, Ipswich, the Inventory Management team is responsible to the Director Logistics within the Operations function of Rheinmetall Defence Australia. The team plays an essential enabling role for the Production and Through Life Support elements of the business, and ultimately in support of the Commonwealth of Australia as the end customer of Rheinmetall products.

About the Role

The Inventory Manager is responsible for the management of Production and Sustainment related Inventory, including the inbound processing, storage, pick, pack and dispatch of material to Production or Sustainment related customers.  The Inventory Manager will ensure that materials are properly identified and recorded in the corporate ERP system (SAP), that replenishment parameters are established to maximise material availability at lowest life cycle cost, and to ensure that internal and external customers can correctly identify and order spare parts for production, preventative and corrective maintenance of vehicles and other systems supported by RDA. 

The Inventory Manager will manage and mentor a team of inventory specialists to ensure that inventory is properly managed to meet demand, maximise inventory turns, and minimise inventory‑on‑hand valuation and obsolescence.

The Inventory Manager will develop and update policy, processes and procedures relating to the management of inventory and drive the implementation of a culture of Continual Improvement and problem solving, using internationally recognised techniques such as Lean.

As an Inventory Manager, you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:

  • Analyse Demand for Materials;
  • Maintain SAP Material Master Data;
  • Manage Inventory Receipt, Storage and Dispatch;
  • Manage Inventory Performance;
  • Maintain Inventory Systems, Policy and Processes;
  • Drive Improvement & Problem Solving; and
  • Staff Administration.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes: 

  • Demonstrated experience in inventory management (analysis, forecasting, master data);
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and improve inventory performance;
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills and highly developed interpersonal skills including a customer focus;
  • Demonstrated experience in managing material master data, including engineering change management, supersession, obsolescence, and alternate parts;
  • Demonstrated experience in warehouse operations, including inbound and outbound processing, MHE operations, storage management and safety risk analysis;
  • Strong ERP systems experience in the area of inventory (SAP advantageous);
  • Demonstrated experience in process improvement and problem solving, utilising concepts, tools and techniques such as Lean and Six Sigma;
  • Ability to mentor and manage a team; and
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance (must hold Australian Citizenship).
