ITEA & Trials Lead Engineer
Rheinmetall Electronics UK Ltd. in Warminster
Ref. no.: UK00767
Schedule type: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent Full-Time
At OMNIA Training, we’ve brought together some of the UK’s most innovative defence training organisations into a single consortium to delivery one powerful mission: to transform the British Army’s training system and create the best-trained Army in the world.
OMNIA Training will redefine the British Army’s collective training, standing up as the Army’s Strategic Training Partner. To do that, we are looking for the best and brightest minds from across the UK. We are backed by British innovation and powered by world-class experts, like you.
OMNIA Training is primed by Raytheon UK, but all five partners (Raytheon, Rheinmetall, Capita, Skyral and Cervus) are key to delivering the scope of the contract.
Supporting innovation, Rheinmetall Electronics UK (REUK) is entrusted with the trialling and acceptance of new products into the Army training system.
This is more than a job — it’s a mission. You will be part of a high-impact, collaborative environment, where we expect everyone to live the values and standards of the British Army. Every person in our team plays a critical role in delivering OMNIA Training’s vision; designing, delivering, and transforming collective training so the British Army is ready to fight and win.
As the ITEA Lead, you will be responsible for leading the Integration, Test, Evaluation, and Acceptance (ITEA) team to ensure that all new and updated Products, Services, and Systems (PSS) are rigorously tested, verified, and validated. Your work will support the seamless transition of capabilities into the ACTS service, in alignment with Defence architectural standards, safety requirements, and interoperability objectives.
You will plan, coordinate, and execute structured testing and trials as part of the Verification, Trial, and Experimentation Plan (VTEP), ensuring each solution meets defined capability and integration requirements. This role offers the opportunity to shape trial activities, operate within advanced test environments, and collaborate with engineering, acquisition, and operational teams across Defence. You will play a key role in validating capability performance, supporting interoperability with legacy systems, and ensuring readiness for service across next-generation simulation training systems.
Applicants must be willing to work within the Defence sector and undertake Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Clearance (SC) checks, if not already held.
Essential Skills
- Proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams delivering complex, safety- and security-critical systems.
- Strong background in Integration, Test, Evaluation and Acceptance (ITEA), including planning and executing structured trials and acceptance activities within Defence or high-assurance environments.
- Experience overseeing verification, validation, and user acceptance testing in compliance-driven settings.
- Ability to translate strategic programme requirements into actionable ITEA plans aligned with governance and assurance models.
- Skilled in identifying, managing, and mitigating ITEA-related risks to support safe and timely capability transitions into service.
- Proven ability to influence and collaborate across stakeholder groups, including acquisition, engineering, and customer representatives.
- Solid understanding of interoperability and integration challenges in complex digital-physical system-of-systems architectures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical issues clearly to senior stakeholders.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with open training and simulation standards:
- High-Level Architecture (HLA)
- Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) UCATT, MILES, or similar systems Certification in Systems Engineering or Test & Evaluation (e.g., INCOSE CSEP, ITEA, CTEP).
- Experience within a multi-vendor, multi-stakeholder Defence delivery programme.
- Familiarity with the UK MOD acquisition lifecycle, including the Land Industrial Strategy and ITEA governance models (e.g. Knowledge in Defence (KiD), DE&S processes).
- Knowledge of Defence architectural compliance frameworks (e.g. GBA, GSA, GVA) and broader capability development methodologies.
Personal Attributes
We’re looking for a proactive and pragmatic ITEA Lead who thrives in complex, regulated environments and takes full ownership of delivering robust, evidence-based outcomes that support the transition of capability into service. You’ll lead the development and execution of integrated ITEA strategies, ensuring all test and trial activities align with operational objectives, safety standards, and relevant governance – delivering systems that are not only compliant but effective, usable, and ready for real-world use.
Whether you have direct experience in Defence or transferable skills from a similar field, success in this role will require you to balance strategic oversight with technical credibility, from defining ITEA plans and guiding team activities to confidently engaging with senior stakeholders, suppliers, and end-users. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are essential, as you’ll collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and organisations to align ITEA efforts with program priorities and ensure the timely, assured delivery of test evidence and acceptance artefacts.
