Senior Scientist: External Ballistic & Fire Control Systems

The Senior Scientist External Ballistics and Fire Control Systems will be responsible for ensuring accurate fire prediction, supporting testing and investigations, and provides technical interface with clients and internal stakeholders. The purpose is to deliver external ballistic capability, including modelling, software, and data, to support the performance and integration of RDM ammunition across client weapon systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the technical team responsible for external ballistics across all applicable calibre systems.
  • Act as client interface for ballistic software integration with in-service artillery fire control systems.
  • Maintain and update ballistic baseline data sets for RDM ammunition.
  • Maintain, develop, and implement external ballistic software used for fire prediction and integration into client weapon systems.
  • Conduct and support failure investigations related to external ballistics (artillery, mortars, 40 mm, and 76 mm systems).
  • Provide ballistic prediction and technical support during dynamic testing at Alkantpan and international test ranges.
  • Support business development by providing ballistic input to marketing and project teams.
  • Represent the company in technical engagements with international clients and partners.
  • Adheres and implements Rheinmetall Denel Munitions Policies and Procedures and ensures compliance to ISO Standards with respect to SHE/Quality/Environmental/Energy.
  • MSc in Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related qualification.
  • At least 5 years working experience as a Scientist or related position.
  • Strong programming and computational skills (languages to be specified in application).
  • Experience in radar data analysis would be advantageous.
  • Experience in external ballistic modelling (3DOF, 5DOF, and/or 6DOF) would be advantageous.
  • Experience supporting ballistic activities at test ranges or similar facilities would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and capable of working independently.
  • Willingness to travel locally and internationally.
