Sensor-Fusion via
the "AI & Biometrics Innovator"
The presence of radar and camera is commonly a standard due to regulatory requirements. Fusing them is where interior sensing transcends traditional boundaries and unlocks new possibilities. This combination offers clear functional advantages, with each sensor's strengths compensating for the other's limitations. The result: enhanced safety through more precise detection of in-cabin activities, redundant signals for safety-critical functions, and access to entirely new use cases.
Sensor fusion also significantly reduces system costs by potentially eliminating the need for dedicated single-purpose sensors. With its proprietary fusion algorithms, Rheinmetall Dermalog SensorTec enables holistic interior sensing while delivering substantial cost benefits. Depending on customer needs, our solutions can be integrated into existing radar+camera platforms or delivered as fully stand-alone systems.
TWO SENSORS – UNLIMITED OPPORTUNITIES
Situational Airbag Suppression
Monitoring passengers' posture to prevent increased injuries from airbags.
With radar and camera hardware already integrated in the vehicle, Rheinmetall Dermalog SensoTec focused on their fusion — enabling safety-critical functions such as dynamic airbag suppression and enhanced robustness of individual radar and camera systems.
The fusion of radar and camera enables precise and robust detection of individual body poses, head positions, height, and weight. The system thus enables our customers to obtain a reliable picture of passenger poses and characteristics. Thanks to redundant sensor signals, this also allows for situational and dynamic airbag activation.
