Since its introduction, the Boxer has been tested over 500,000 km in all climate zones andis combat proven.

It is produced as part of a multinational programme involving Germany, the Netherlands, Lithuania, the United Kingdom and Australia. With the exception of Australia, the nations are represented by OCCAR (French: Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en Matière d’Armement; English: Joint Organisation for Armament Cooperation).

On the industrial side, the Boxer is produced under the umbrella of ARTEC GmbH. ARTEC is a joint venture between KNDS Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG and Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH (RLS), in which Rheinmetall holds a 64% stake.Over time, the Boxer has evolved from a transport vehicle to a combat vehicle. In this role, it now performs the functions of a wheeled armoured personnel carrier, weapon carrier, anti-aircraft gun carrier, artillery tank and even an anti-aircraft missile tank.A large part of these capabilities are deployed in the Bundeswehr's medium forces – the army's new force structure.

Boxer with modular Lance2 turret system

The Boxer is a modern, armoured 8x8 vehicle used by armies around the world. It offers improved protection for the crew and combines a high level of firepower and mobility. The Boxer Lance is equipped with a manned Lance2 turret system including an effective 30 mm MK30-2/ABM, anti-tank capabilities and secondary armament.

The newly developed modular turret technology complements the modular basic concept of the BOXER. This combination offers optimal conditions in terms of command capability and technical upgrade potential. The Boxer Lance offers flexible configurations to meet the requirements of different branches of the armed forces, e.g. as a heavy infantry weapon carrier or as a wheeled infantry fighting vehicle with group dismount capability.

Boxer RCT 30 – Wheeled armoured personnel carrier for the armoured infantry of the German and Dutch armies

The wheeled armoured personnel carrier used by the German and Dutch armies is equipped with the turret (RCT 30) of the Puma tracked armoured personnel carrier. The RCT 30 is an unmanned, remote-controlled turret with a 30 mm MK30-2/ABM gun, anti-tank capabilities (Mells) and secondary armament.

The Boxer RCT 30 offers space for a dismounted rifle squad of six soldiers as well as the commander, gunner and driver.

Boxer as an armoured and wheeled mine clearance system

Thanks to its modularity and scalability, the Boxer offers the possibility of performing many tasks that were previously only possible with tracked vehicles, but now also with wheeled vehicles.

This gives medium-sized forces' engineers the ability to engage in combat to clear obstacles. In addition to various mechanical mine clearance devices, the system also offers the ability to quickly eliminate all types of ordnance and break through mine barriers using a Plofadder-type mine clearance ladder (MICLIC).

Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle for the AUS programme “Land 400 Phase 2”

Rheinmetall's Boxer wheeled reconnaissance vehicle ‘Boxer CRV’ (Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle) is a variant of this world-leading capability carrier developed for the Australian Land 400 Phase 2 programme. The Boxer CRV is equipped with the Lance2 turret and can carry four soldiers.

Boxer – Heavy Infantry Weapon Carrier for the German Armed Forces' Jäger troops

To replace the Wiesel weapon carrier, which is being phased out, the German Armed Forces procured a new heavy weapon carrier (sWaTrg Inf) with a manned Lance2 turret, a powerful 30 mm machine gun and Mells anti-tank guided missiles for the German infantry.

The new weapon carrier is intended to seamlessly close the capability gap left by the Wiesel.

The Boxer variants already developed include the commercially available Boxer CRV RECON II variant, which is currently being introduced in Australia and features a Lance2 medium-calibre turret based on German expertise.

Boxer Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) in the United Kingdom

Rheinmetall plays a key role in the delivery of the British Armed Forces' new Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) programme. The Boxer is thoroughly British, battle-proven and offers an exceptional level of protection. Rheinmetall will manufacture around half of the more than 600 Boxer wheeled vehicles for the British Army.
