The Advanced Land Autonomy Centre of Excellence (ALACOE) at Rheinmetall Nordic is the company’s focal point for the development, integration and application of autonomous and unmanned ground systems in the Nordic region. ALACOE was established to bridge the gap between rapidly advancing autonomy technologies and the practical, operational requirements of modern land forces.
ALACOE at Rheinmetall Nordic is part of a wider international network of ALACOEs within Rheinmetall. These centres collaborate closely across borders, sharing experience, technology development, lessons learned and best practices. This international cooperation allows solutions developed in one nation to benefit others, while still tailoring autonomous capabilities to national concepts, operational needs and regulatory frameworks.
Focus on military autonomy
Land forces are entering a period of profound transformation. Experiences from current conflicts, combined with accelerating technological development, show that unmanned and autonomous ground systems are evolving from experimental concepts into essential military capabilities. At the same time, armed forces face increasing complexity when integrating autonomy into existing structures, legacy platforms and command‑and‑control systems. ALACOE was established to address this challenge through a structured, long‑term and operationally grounded approach.
ALACOE brings together expertise in autonomy, vehicle integration, systems engineering and military operations. Operating close to end users, research institutions and national stakeholders, the centre focuses on turning autonomy into deployable capability rather than isolated technology. This includes hands‑on experimentation, field testing, integration of sensors and payloads, and adaptation of autonomous functions to terrain, doctrine and national force structures.
Comprehensive land management solutions
For customers, ALACOE acts as a single point of contact for land autonomy. We support customers throughout the full capability lifecycle – from early concept development and experimentation, through demonstrations and trials, to system integration, sustainment and further evolution. By combining Rheinmetall’s platforms and autonomy solutions with local integration competence and access to the wider international ALACOE network, customers can reduce risk, build confidence and develop autonomy competence in parallel with technology adoption.
Through close cooperation, practical testing and continuous learning, ALACOE supports customers in transforming towards future armies where autonomy serves as a force multiplier – increasing situational awareness, reducing risk to personnel, and enabling new operational concepts on tomorrow’s battlefield.
