How did you learn about the Rheinmetall Graduate Program?
I grew up in the Unterlüß region, which meant I was already familiar with Rheinmetall. In addition, my time with the Bundeswehr was also a big factor in why I wanted to work for Rheinmetall. At the time, I was therefore specifically looking for a job without primarily committing myself to an area in which I wanted to work. The desire to work for Rheinmetall was paramount. I was particularly enthusiastic about the Graduate Program with a focus in sales: I was able to gain initial professional experience without having to decide on a specific position in a department. Of course, I had a preference for this area of activity, but the programme also offered a variety of opportunities in different departments.
How did your traineeship start at Rheinmetall?
I think the first days after a company change are always exciting: new people, new environment and you have to learn to find your way around. However, thanks to the nice and open colleagues, I managed this very quickly and was able to dedicate myself to my first tasks. Due to my start in December, one could think that because of the Christmas season, many things would have been completed and the plans for the New Year would be in place. In December 2019, however, we were still working flat out on many projects and new orders were acquired.
What kind of support did your mentors give you during the traineeship?
In every aspect, actually. My mentor was also the head of my department. Of course, that helped me personally enormously to find my way around in the first few days and to be informed about all the higher-level and organisational issues. In addition, I received the full support of my direct colleagues at all times.
In which aspects have you been able to feel the most growth?
That is difficult to judge, because the transfer to such a large corporation naturally requires you to evolve in several areas. For example, one could mention the processes and the technically demanding and interesting products. However, I personally think that I have made the greatest development in working independently, interacting with customers and using foreign languages in the work environment.
How was your transition to permanent employment planned and arranged?
Right from the start, we were told that Rheinmetall's goal was to employ the trainees on a permanent basis. My head of department confirmed this plan to me and signalled here again after a few months that he wanted to take me on.

Perfectly fitted for you – as diverse as you are.
