KSPG Automotive India, a subsidiary of Rheinmetall, is currently represented on the Indian market with more than 1,000 employees. In addition to the Pierburg location in Takwe and a sales office in Pune, KSPG Automotive India has a plain bearing production facility in Supa and machining facility in Takwe. The Group also holds a 20-percent stake in Shriram Pistons and Rings Co. Ltd., Delhi and cooperates through providing technical collaboration with Jaya Hind Industries Ltd., Pune in the aluminum castings sector.

A warm welcome to Rheinmetall in India! At Rheinmetall’s subsidiary KSPG Automotive India, we are motivated to constantly challenge the status quo and strive hard to break the barriers no matter how tough the challenges are. Since our establishment in India in 2006, we have incorporated various technology products into our systems and processes which has helped us develop new business models and thrive with dynamic market demand. With globally operating project teams, the amalgamation of local and global ideas has led us to boost the productivity and overall performance of the organization.

Experiences from living in India
My name is Suyog Gandhi and I am Senior Sales Manager North America at Rheinmetall. Before my time in the USA, I worked at KSPG India. Here is my story…
When I look back at my association with Pierburg India (today known as KSPG India), I can proudly say that my journey was phenomenal; considering the opportunities and challenges that I faced. During these 11 years, my personal and professional growth was very much in parallel to the growth of Pierburg in India, which has always outgrown the market.
On professional front, I got the opportunity to further develop a sales department and on that journey learn different aspects of leadership through mentoring from my seniors. In addition to internal coaching at KSPG India, I was also a part of a “Sales Cycle Management Training” at Rheinmetall Academy, the group’s training center in Germany.
The initial period of my career was crucial to learn about and adjust to the organizational culture, values, people management and product development. This has helped me understand its importance and impact on the internal processes over the years.
KSPG’s establishment in India has helped many new employees within the country to experience the organization’s culture, values and participate in a bigger collective goal by breaking barriers and personal limitations.
During my tenure with KSPG India, I got several opportunities to work with senior management on all business presentations and joint discussions where I received the highest possible attention. This pushed my ambitions to contribute to KSPG India’s success.
The best part of KSPG India as an organization is the combination of German culture, global mindset and Indian flexibility. It unlocks several opportunities for all employees to explore one’s talent and grow personally and professionally, not only due to its matrix organizational structure.
KSPG India ensures the work life balance of employees and respects their personal life by encouraging them to plan annual holiday during January of each year. It helped me to take a break from my job and plan holidays with my family.
Through my personal experience, I realized that the organization stands behind you, especially during family crises, where you need a strong support the most, and this is reflected in all employee policies.
I can say that KSPG India is a growing organization in a growing market with endless learning opportunities.
When we discuss the relations with people within the organization as well as with external customers and suppliers, we need to go back and understand the value system of Rheinmetall Group as RESPECT, TRUST and RESPECT.
I always say to my team that though we work in closed teams still the employees are being given the liberty to approach even the Managing Director to have open discussions without any fear. Not only this, during the manpower crunch on the shop-floor during COVID-19 crisis, the management committee stepped forward to support shop-floor operations by working on assembly lines.
If I had to mention best practices, I need to start with “Yes, Together We Can! – Annual Goal Setting Workshop”. This full day event allows employees to understand goals and challenges of coming years and participate in devising strategic initiatives by exchanging ideas with cross-functional teams.
Additionally, I want to mention the frequent Management Review Meeting (MRM) as well as the plant review meetings, which allow us to openly discuss market strategy, new ideas and initiatives.
During the last decade, I participated in several projects. The BS 6 project not only changed my perspective but also changed KSPG India as an organization with respect to various growth and development opportunities.

With the help of the Sales Director and Managing Director, we presented the potentials and challenges of BS 6 to global management during 2016, to enable the resources (Capex as well as manpower which were required to meet the BS6 strategic goals) from the global organization.
With the success of BS 6 projects, on one hand the plant in India resulted in double the sales value with over 30 highly complex products and on the other hand, I got the opportunity to move to North America and work in a market, which is currently three times bigger than the Indian market.
My name is Bogdan Ursache, I am Romanian and I lived in India with my family for four years. Read more about my time as Head of Operations in India.
First I would like to introduce myself: My name is Bogdan Ursache, I am Romanian and lived in India for 4 years with my wife and two boys who are 6 and 11 years old. As Head of Operations, my main tasks can be summarized as follows:
- BS6 (emission standards) programs launch and manufacturing in India,
- mini-factory concept implementation,
- supervision of industrial/processing engineering and plant maintenance,
- as Head of operations manage entire Value Stream from Material and Production Planning with Logistics team to achieving Customer Satisfaction with Quality team.
End of 2016, we decided to take a challenge for all four of us and come to India and it was an incredible journey in our family life. My wife learned yoga and discovered that she loves to draw and paint along with her love for flowers and nature. My boys have learned English and have reached to a proficiency level of Native.
It is incredible the kind of diversity this country has to share with its totally diverse culture and explosion of taste, smell and colours. I can say that every year we have enjoyed Holi (festival of colours) where you can become a child once again and then Diwali (festival of light) when you feel that you’re in a wonderland!!!
During my 4 years in India I have met some great people personalities. The culture of India is so much different from that of Europe that it took me some time to understand that a YES doesn’t really mean that things are understood... but then I made the team to practice saying NO also. I would say that here there is an unbelievable strong belief that any obstacles can be broken. I have seen and felt an immense family value in the company and within all Indian friends I have made here.
As far as my experience with working in India goes, many people are either afraid or do not trust India when it comes to being associated with manufacturing and have a perception that it is impossible to achieve Benchmark manufacturing at automotive level - which I believe is a wrong perception. Actually with correct focus on lean manufacturing and Bill of process using appropriate technique of Poka Yoke (term from Japanese language which stands for a concept of constant quality improvement by avoiding (yoke) unintentional errors (poka)), we flawlessly managed to meet customer expectations on quality, volumes and cost. A strong organisation has to be based on strong values and values such as diversity, equality, empowerment, innovation and processes thriving for continuous improvement and entrepreneurship. These form the basis on which the principles of our company are built on.
Once again, my biggest project was to work with Pierburg India Management to hire and develop a self-sustainable Operations team, which today we have achieved successfully. Besides, we have also launched 26 new BS6 projects in the market despite unbelievably stressful timeline. Of course this was possible with team work and structured approach.
India has a way to make a mark in your book of life; it has done in mine. It was an incredible time for me and my family.
