Who we are
KS Gleitlager Mexico, a Rheinmetall subsidiary specializing in high-precision sliding elements, was founded in 2012. The introduction of new technologies in production, innovative development work and a clear customer orientation have made KS Gleitlager Mexico one of the world’s leading suppliers of plain bearings and thrust washers, around 80 per cent of which are destined for the North and South American markets, while the remaining 20 per cent are exported to Europe. The product range encompasses more than 200 different models that – depending on the requirements – vary in terms of material, shape and size. The coated products are made of steel, steel and aluminium, steel and bronze as well as permaglide® materials, which consist of a combination of steel, bronze and plastic.
The Rheinmetall subsidiary Kolbenschmidt Mexico in Celaya (KSMX) was founded in 1994 as an aluminium piston manufacturer. In recent years, state-of-the-art processes have been implemented along with highly committed employees, leading to establish a very competitive manufacturing centre that produces aluminium and steel pistons for internal-combustion engines and compressors for passenger cars and medium- and heavy-duty applications.
Pierburg Pump Technology Mexico, also a subsidiary of Rheinmetall, started operations in Chihuahua in 2007 and was transferred to Celaya in 2009 for oil pump production. Pierburg Pump Technology specialises in manufacturing various types of engine pumps, such as oil pumps, vacuum pumps, water circulation pumps and coolant pumps. All types of pumps are subject to continuous development and offer our customers a wide range of individual solutions for all engine applications and requirements.

Business Excellence at Rheinmetall - A multicultural experience
Working at Rheinmetall has provided me the opportunity to pursue an international career. In terms of the company's excellence, Rheinmetall is a point of reference for its production and administration systems. At Rheinmetall, we create global partnership networks that we build up in real time at all our sites around the world. Sharing experience from various locations provides clear competitive advantages to Rheinmetall and its employees.
I started working at Rheinmetall as a manufacturing engineer in 2015 and have been part of the local business excellence committee since then. Being in contact with colleagues in other countries is part of my day-to-day work, which has enabled me to find the best solutions based on lessons learned and to follow through with the improvements implemented in Rheinmetall Group.
I was promoted to regional business excellence coordinator for all plants in the Americas in 2018. I've been involved in implementing processes and audits for our business excellence system by handling key development activities at each of the plants and results targeted at continuous improvement. This process has come with many lessons on how other cultures confront their challenges and how to use the right strategy to ultimately meet objectives.
Multicultural dialogue is a key part of my role at Rheinmetall. I've had contact with other colleagues and experts in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma in Rheinmetall Group around the world, which gives me new perspectives on managing business for Rheinmetall.
An approach to quality – from student to Quality Manager
Rheinmetall Celaya began operations in 2009, launching seven new forms of technology in a ten-year span. This was without question a major challenge – one that I am proud to have taken part in by contributing my ideas and quality expertise.
The automotive industry is a fast-paced, evolving world where every activity has tight deadlines, each customer has their own requirements, and it's difficult to implement a system that suits everyone. This is where my team and I have focused all our efforts in order to meet their expectations.
Working at Rheinmetall Celaya has allowed me to collaborate with people from around the globe, thus expanding my knowledge and perspectives not only in terms of work, but also life in general. Thanks to this support at the global level, we've managed to surpass our targets year after year – both at the operational and the financial level.
The excellent quality of our products has opened doors to new business, and representing the quality department at Rheinmetall Celaya is a responsibility I am very proud to have day after day.
I started working at Rheinmetall Celaya right after I earned my degree in industrial engineering. This is essentially the only formal job I've had where, after 11 years, I'm still just as proud and excited as on my first day. My career has always revolved around quality. As a quality engineer, I've had the chance to start up most of the production lines currently at the plant, which produce excellent results.
After a while, I was promoted to quality coordinator, where I was able to oversee staff and learned a great deal about human behaviour and that the workers are the most important asset for a company, without question.
As a quality manager, I now have the opportunity to introduce new methods of data administration to help us identify patterns and characteristics in our products, which then helps us to find new quality improvements.
Shy, reliable, steady … truly kind, yet stubborn at times. That is the best way to describe Juan Nolasco.
From the Mexican city of Celaya, Guanajuato, Juan Nolasco is 38 years old, married and has four children. Aware of people’s needs, he likes the people who work with him to have everything they require, such as knowledge, skills and tools, so that they can do their job to the best of their abilities. He’s an eager proponent of challenges, discipline and teamwork. For him, these are essential ingredients for success. He's always willing to share the expertise that people want to acquire and even more so the expertise they have yet to discover. His dream is to leave an impression on people that will last.
I started working for the organisation as an operator for KS Kolbenschmidt production machines in 2010. I was then selected for training as a preforming operator in Brazil for 10 weeks in order to get ready for the launch of KS Gleitlager. I was subsequently trained as an operator for the specialized production machines. During this time, I was sent to Germany for 4 weeks’ training on prototypes and preforming.
In October 2012, I was appointed as a Team Leader Operator in forming. Four years later, in July 2014, I took on the role of a Production Technical Assistant, providing support for forming and pre-forming. During a period of a little over four years, I was given the opportunity to study alongside work and complete a degree in industrial engineering, which helped me to perform my new duties as a Continuous Improvement Engineer starting in April 2019. In May 2021, I was promoted to my current job position as a Process Engineer in Production. As a result, I have been given the opportunity to continue my training in Germany to acquire new expertise and skills, which will help me overcome new challenges.
What I enjoy most about the group is the opportunity that it gives you to be yourself while guiding you to improve in areas of opportunity on a daily basis. The group offers you opportunities where you decide whether you want to take them on or not, which makes it clearly evident that any limits only exist in your head.
Set yourself a goal and draw up a life plan to reach your goals. By that, I mean if you genuinely want something with all your heart, strive to achieve it. It’s the easiest thing in the world to just do nothing, but you will never make your dreams come true that way. When you really want something, don’t quit...don’t give up easily...
To achieve your ambition, you need to: draw up a plan, follow the plan and if the plan doesn't work, change the plan. Never change your goal!
Perseverance, commitment and discipline.
