KSPG AG: Major contracts booked for variable oil pumps
Auto-component supplier KSPG AG, a member of the Rheinmetall Group, has been awarded several major contracts for variable oil pumps. The contracts placed by European, US and Japanese OEMs are worth altogether €245 million over the total periods.
For some time now, variable oil pumps have been making market inroads and are of growing significance on account of tighter emission standards, the rising demands for improved fuel efficiency and a reduction in CO2.. Their most important advantage is that pump output can flexibly be matched to the required oil flow, depending on engine temperature, RPM, and load.
Work on the first pump contract placed with the KSPG subsidiary, Pierburg, will commence this year and further SOPs are scheduled for the next three years. The manufacturing locations from which the pumps will be shipped are the Pierburg plants in France, Italy, and Mexico.
Pierburg's mechanical variable oil pumps are of vane-type design. Delivery volumes are adapted to current engine oil needs with the aid of an adjusting ring. In contrast, non-variable pumps suffer substantial losses at high engine speeds since the volume of pumped oil rises with rising engine speed.
