Succeeding with innovative technology: Rheinmetall’s Automotive unit boosting its American business
Rheinmetall’s Automotive unit, KSPG AG, has just been awarded several large contracts for innovative mechatronic components designed to reduce consumption and emissions. The contracts came from leading American automotive manufacturers. For the Mechatronics division of this first-tier auto industry supplier the orders are worth more than €400 million over the entire lifetime of the contracts.
Oil and vacuum pumps will be supplied as well as exhaust gas recirculation modules, solenoid valves and throttle valves, with a major share constituting the combined oil and vacuum pump manufactured by KSPG’s subsidiary Pierburg Pump Technology. This new generation of pumps allows fuel savings and hence reduced CO2 emissions.
The new pump is scheduled to go into production at the start of 2015 and will be manufactured by Pierburg Pump Technology at its new plant in Celaya, Mexico.
