The Large Calibre Turret Lead Engineer a professional engineer with applied working knowledge of Systems Engineering, Lethality, Survivability, Weapon and Sighting systems for Main Battle Tanks and Artillery Systems. This role will lead and guide a team of engineers and technical specialists and is a pivotal role focusing mainly on the successful delivery of infantry fighting vehicles (e.g. Boxer CRV, Lynx) for our international projects.  

The Tasks will include:

  • Undertaking system level analysis through to specification of sub-system requirements into the internal design team and sub-contractors.
  • Undertaking system level trades and balances to determine optimum architectural design within the system design boundaries for the vehicle.
  • Take ownership of and be responsible for the overall Turret performance, providing assurance of meeting key performance requirements (PHit, Protection, DRI) through analysis and test. 
  • Development of interface requirements specifications between Hull, Turret, Electrical and Electronic Architecture, Weapon, Sensor and Survivability subsystems. 
  • Familiarity with safety standards and requirements for the design and qualification of safety related systems.
  • Understanding of Electro Optic Protection Measures.
  • Applied working knowledge in the planning, specifying, conduct and report of Turret system level trials for both performance and safety.
  • Understanding of weight management and ability to identify and implement weight saving opportunities.
  • Vehicle domain knowledge and expertise in a land platform environment of power and data systems.
  • Applied, working knowledge of mechanical and logical interfaces of the Turret sub-system into the wider system design.
  • Management of a team of Engineers and Designers including Speciality subject matter experts for FEA, Operational Environment, EMC, Human Factors, Safety, Security, Environmental and Legislation.
  • Ability to plan and implement a Turret development program including managing budgets and schedules.
  • Lead milestone reviews and run regular internal and customer working groups.
  • Identify key risks, issues and develop mitigations.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes: 

  • Degree in Engineering.
  • 10 – 15 years of significant experience in Systems Engineering, Lethality, Survivability, Weapon and Sighting systems.
  • Specific technical domain knowledge of turret system design within the end to end lethality performance chain.
  • Ability to use requirements management software (DOORS). 
  • Previous Defence Industry experience in delivering complex platforms/systems is beneficial. 
  • Be eligible for a Government Security Clearance and have the capacity to satisfy pre-employment screening.
