WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Head of Systems Engineering (m/f/d) is responsible for managing and overseeing the tools, processes and systems engineering for the Tactical Vehicles business unit. This role will lead a team of diverse engineers across multiple sites in Germany and internationally. This key strategic position is a pivotal role focusing mainly on the successful delivery of infantry fighting vehicles (e.g. Boxer CRV, Lynx) for our international projects.

The Tasks will include:

  • Undertake the continuous development of the Systems Engineering tools, processes and capability in the Tactical business unit.
  • Lead teams to undertake system level analysis through to specification of sub-system requirements into the internal design team and sub-contractors.
  • Lead requirements analysis and sub-system specification for Subsystems systems within the overall system design.
  • Ability to derive requirements to achieve overall system performance, defining the assurance required to meet key performance requirements through analysis and test.
  • Manage the development of architectural modelling, use cases, system task analysis and functional flow block diagrams for the various vehilce systems.
  • Manage the interface requirements specifications between subsystems.
  • Defining appropriate engineering performance measures (e.g. mass, power, etc), allocating performance budgets to the engineering work packages, and ensuring that the required performance levels are achieved for these work packages.
  • Managing the Rheinmetall design review process including review of packages for the various Mandated Systems Review activities.
  • Define and develop the Verification and Validation methods in close cooperation with the V&V Manager to ensure the turret systems satisfies all contract requirements.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and requirements for the design and qualification of safety related systems.
  • Ability to interface with speciality subject matter experts for FEA, Operational Environment, EMC, Human Factors, Safety, Environmental and Legislation to develop sub sets of derived requirements.
  • Identify key risks, issues and develop mitigations as necessary.
  • Experience of undertaking system level trades and balances to determine optimum architectural design within the system design boundaries for the vehicle.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes:  

  • Degree in Engineering.
  • More than 10 years of relevant experience including significant Systems Engineering.
  • Experience in undertaking system level trades and balances to determine optimum architectural design within the system design boundaries for the vehicle.
  • Applied working knowledge of turret and weapon system designs.
  • Ability to use requirements management software (DOORS).
  • Previous Defence Industry experience in delivering complex platforms/systems is beneficial.
  • Be eligible for a Government Security Clearance and have the capacity to satisfy pre-employment screening.
