WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install, maintain, calibrate and test field instruments including pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters.
- Repair and troubleshoot control loops, PLC interfaces, HMIs, VSDs, SCADA signals and instrumentation power supplies.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, predictive checks and calibration verifications.
- Conduct loop checks, signal tracing, fault isolation and diagnostics on process equipment.
- Maintain all instrumentation drawings, loop diagrams, datasheets, and calibration certificates.
- Support engineering with instrumentation modifications, upgrades and new project installations.
- Perform breakdown analysis and contribute to Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations.
- Ensure instrument equipment in hazardous/explosive areas complies with statutory standards.
- Compliance to Legislation & Business Systems
- Ensure compliance with OHS Act, Explosives Act and relevant ISO/NOSA standards.
- Maintain statutory documentation and calibration traceability.
- Apply safe work practices including Lock-out/Tag-out and hazardous area procedures.
- Ensure control systems adhere to RDM engineering standards and operating model.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Support
- Work effectively with engineers, operators and maintenance personnel to resolve instrumentation issues.
- Liaise with external service providers for calibrations, repairs and upgrades.
- Participate in technical meetings, providing input on instrumentation performance and failures.
- Train plant personnel on correct use of instrumentation equipment where needed.
- Financial Responsibilities
- Assist in developing cost estimates for instrumentation-related projects or modifications.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through improved reliability and equipment performance.
- Support CAPEX projects related to control systems and instrumentation
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE
- NQF 6 qualification in the Electrical/Instrumentation field or equivalent qualification.
- Trade Test – Instrumentation / Industrial Instrument Mechanician.
- N5 qualification in the Electrical/Instrumentation field.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing/processing environment.
- Experience with Siemens PLCs and SCADA systems is advantageous.
- Knowledge of hazardous area (Ex) equipment and compliance.
- Computer literate (MS Office, SAP PM advantageous).
- Driver’s license essential.
