Systems Engineer

Rheinmetall Electronics UK Ltd. in Warminster

Nº de ref.:  UK00794

Schedule type:  Full Time

Contract Type:  Fixed Term Contract

At OMNIA Training, we’ve brought together some of the UK’s most innovative defence training organisations into a single consortium to delivery one powerful mission: to transform the British Army’s training system and create the best-trained Army in the world.

OMNIA Training will redefine the British Army’s collective training, standing up as the Army’s Strategic Training Partner. To do that, we are looking for the best and brightest minds from across the UK. We are backed by British innovation and powered by world-class experts, like you.

OMNIA Training is primed by Raytheon UK, but all five partners (Raytheon, Rheinmetall, Capita, Skyral and Cervus) are key to delivering the scope of the contract.

Supporting innovation, Rheinmetall Electronics UK (REUK) is entrusted with the trialling and acceptance of new products into the Army training system.

This is more than a job — it’s a mission. You will be part of a high-impact, collaborative environment, where we expect everyone to live the values and standards of the British Army. Every person in our team plays a critical role in delivering OMNIA Training’s vision; designing, delivering, and transforming collective training so the British Army is ready to fight and win.

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for supporting the definition, integration, and implementation of system architectures that underpin complex Defence training systems and services. Working in collaboration with the Enterprise Architect, you will help ensure that system design aligns with configuration management processes, data integration requirements, and broader architectural guidelines. This role involves engagement with system and data architecture, secure-by-design principles, configuration control, and planning for the migration of legacy data into the Defence Developer Services (D2S1) environment. You will also contribute to governance forums, maintain system-level architecture artefacts, and ensure traceability across the system lifecycle.

The role offers the opportunity to lead and shape the architectural direction of trial and test activities, working within advanced simulation and integration environments. You will collaborate closely with engineering, acquisition, and operational teams across Defence to ensure that new systems are validated, interoperable with legacy systems and aligned with strategic objectives. Your contributions will be critical in ensuring operational readiness, enabling data-driven decision-making, and delivering secure, scalable, and integrated simulation training systems.

Required, necessary for the role

  • Degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering, Defence Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Systems Engineer or in a related role within Defence, government, or other complex or regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of system integration, configuration management, and data handling in secure, complex systems.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and architecture notations such as SysML or ArchiMate.
  • Demonstrated experience in requirements analysis, traceability, and lifecycle support, including verification and validation activities.
  • Experience with data integration and migration, including working with Government-Furnished Information (GFI) or equivalent third-party data sources.
  • Understanding of data governance, data quality management, and Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes as part of system integration.
  • Familiarity with Secure-by-Design principles, accreditation processes (e.g., RMADS), and cybersecurity standards applicable to Defence or secure systems.
  • Strong communication and technical stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to contribute to design reviews, governance boards, and cross-functional planning.

Desired, would be helpful for the role

  • Experience working with MOD or Army platforms, systems, or data environments (e.g., D2S, Army Data Warehouse).
  • Understanding of through-life system support, including Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) targets, and supportability engineering.
  • Exposure to DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) in secure environments.
  • Awareness of safety and environmental assurance principles, including ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable).
  • Experience contributing to technical assurance, system readiness, and integration trials in simulation or mission-critical domains.

We’re looking for a proactive and pragmatic Systems Engineer who thrives in complex, regulated Defence environments and takes ownership of delivering secure and integrated solutions. You’ll be someone who understands the importance of translating technical requirements into real-world capabilities that are not only compliant, but also interoperable, sustainable, and effective in the hands of the end user.

Whether you have direct experience in Defence or transferable skills from a similar field, success in this role will require you to operate confidently across the system lifecycle, from requirements analysis and interface definition to integration, verification, and support planning. You’ll engage with detailed technical models and artefacts, contribute to configuration control and security assurance, and ensure system designs are traceable, validated, and fit for purpose. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills are essential as you’ll work closely with engineering teams, military stakeholders, and industry partners to deliver and evolve systems that underpin critical training and simulation capabilities.

As OMNIA, we are looking for individuals who want to serve. You’ll have a mission focus, and the enthusiasm and drive to ‘get things done’. You’ll want to work in collaboration with other defence training organisations, and the British Army. You won’t let bureaucracy get in the way of what needs to be done, you’ll learn lessons and share these lessons across the team. You won’t necessarily have a military background, but you’ll understand what it means to serve and to put the mission first
