This role will support the CR3 Programme Manager in the successful implementation and delivery of the CR3 Contract and to lead and drive successful performance of commercial activities through the project lifecycle, including bid approval, proposal submission, contract negotiation and acceptance of any resulting Contract. Reporting to the Programme Manager with functional reporting lines to the Commercial Director.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of the Commercial strategy required to support the delivery of RBSL business strategy and oversee its implementation within the Commercial function.
  • Supporting Commercial activity across programmes and opportunities
  • Management of CR3 Commercial Team including career progression and supervision with an aim to improve their performance and capability.
  • Extensive Customer & Supplier interaction will be required
  • Lead commercial aspects of Programmes and Business Development for CR3
  • Functional expertise required with a working knowledge of Commercial activity required to complete the role
  • Able to support and lead negotiations with internal and external stakeholders to achieve agreements that are in the best interests of RBSL
  • Able to develop and lead solutions to problems using logical reasoning and thought processes, able to consider the merits of alternative approaches
  • Ensure the Commercial function complies with the Business operational framework, adheres to the principles of the LCM framework, with an obligation to generate an increased level of robustness in the bid approval material to ensure comprehensive Commercial risk mitigation and deliver business performance.
  • Generation and approval of Commercial Life Cycle Management (LCM) deliverables in accordance with company protocol, ensuring compliance with all Business and functional processes and systems.
  • Responsibility for the CR3 Commercial team obtaining requisite approvals to create and release proposals, including pricing aspects, relating to development, production and in-service support requirements, including Urgent Operational Requirements (UORs), covering Vehicles, Vehicle Systems and other products and associated Logistic Support products and services, for civil and defence customers, UK and overseas.
  • Provide the Commercial interface with UK MoD and other customers for the CR3 Contracts.
  • Lead commercial negotiator in complex customer facing negotiations for the CR3 Contracts.
  • Assistance in and provision of information to support negotiations and decision making requiring further escalation for resolution.
  • Analyses, interpretation and presentation of the Business’s contractual and commercial position for Business endorsement or direction.
  • Development of new commercial relationships with key customers and strategic partners to maximise order intake and deliver increased margin and Business benefit.
  • Creation, negotiation and agreement of a wider range of Non-Disclosure, Partnership, Teaming and other agreements with external Customers and Partners.
  • Quality Assurance - Perform all work/tasks in accordance with project/functional requirements and to the standards prescribed in supporting technical documentation. Proactively seek opportunities for continuous improvement and to support quality assurance activities and improvement initiatives deployed by the business.

A Defence background would preferred but is not essential.

  • Qualified to degree standard or equivalent level. Alternatively, proven extensive previous relevant experience required.
  • Experience in a customer-facing role and with good language and analytical skills.
  • Commercial and/or legal background
  • Works on own initiative with responsibility for delivery
  • Works with limited supervision, helps define own objectives
  • Developed a comprehensive Commercial knowledge
  • Developed a high level of business acumen in terms of wider business requirements
  • Excellent Customer Relationship Management skills (Internal/External)
  • Ability to work and lead as part of effective multi-functional project teams
  • People focused leader and team player
  • Handling of challenging contracts
