About the Team
The IP Team sits within the Legal and Commercial function, based across RDA’s Redbank and Melbourne offices. Our team provides strategic guidance and support by providing timely advice in support of RDA’s key projects.
About the Role
The Intellectual Property Specialist is a key member of the Legal and Commercial Team required to support the Intellectual Property Manager in managing RDA’s IP and its obligations to the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) and other parties involved in the global supply chain.
This role is open to be based at either our MILVEHCOE office in Redbank, Ipswich or in our Melbourne office.
As an Intellectual Property Specialist, you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:
- Providing IP advisory support (head contract, subcontract flow-downs, licensing);
- Assisting in drafting, negotiating and managing IP licenses;
- Assisting in the preparation and development of IP schedules for all program deliverables;
- Assisting in the preparation and filing of applications for registration of IP rights in Australia and New Zealand;
- Assisting in the development and management of contracts for Research and Development / Technology projects; supporting corporate functions with the management of IP (e.g. transfer pricing, tax, legal);
- Assisting with the development of dynamic cross-jurisdictional IP strategies across multiple projects;
- Assisting in the training and provision of guidance to RDA staff on IP requirements and practices; and
- Assisting in the legal analysis of IP contract clauses and legislative changes; and
- Providing a point of contact in Australia for the project team in Germany.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes:
- Tertiary qualifications in Intellectual Property, Law or equivalent discipline;
- A minimum of 2-4 years’ experience within and IP or similar role;
- Experience in drafting, negotiating and amending intellectual property license agreements;
- Experience in preparing and filing applications for the registration of IP rights (and instruction of patent attorneys if not a qualified attorney);
- A strong understanding of the fundamentals of intellectual property database administration and management;
- A good understanding of the administration and negotiation of Australian contract law, specifically as it relates to IP;
- A good understanding within Patent and Trademarking Legislation (desirable);
- Ability to assist in the development of IP strategies that deliver competitive advantage to proposals and tenders;
- Ability to travel internationally and interstate, when required; and
- Eligibility to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance (Australian Citizenship required).
