The Test Engineer is responsible for planning, coordination, and hands-on execution of all aspects of hardware testing and product compliance for REUKs full product portfolio.
Working closely with the Systems Engineering and Electro-Mechanical teams, the Test Engineer is responsible for demonstrating product compliance against technical requirements, as well as CE and UKCA standards.
This critical role focuses on developing, maintaining and executing robust test plans, whilst also providing expert technical guidance to the Manufacturing Engineering team in the design and optimisation of production-line testing solutions.
Responsibilities
- Test Planning: Responsible for developing comprehensive test plans that outline scope, methodology, and acceptance criteria, ensuring test cases validate functionality against requirements.
- Test Execution: Responsible for performing various types of testing, including:
- Functional Testing: Conduct testing of prototypes and pre-production product to ensure performance benchmarks are met prior to customer delivery.
- Design Verification Testing: Conduct testing to provide objective evidence that the products satisfy all hardware technical specifications.
- Qualification Testing: Conduct testing to provide objective evidence that the products meet performance, reliability, and quality criteria required for service use.
- Defect Management: Responsible for identifying, documenting, and monitoring hardware defects, collaborating with development teams to ensure timely resolution.
- Documentation: Responsible for authoring comprehensive test reports and compiling technical files required for CE/UKCA marking, ensuring all objective evidence is organised and accessible.
- Collaboration: Participating in design reviews to advocate for "testability" early in the development lifecycle.
Main Tasks
- Interpret complex system requirements to develop and implement robust, comprehensive test plans and procedures.
- Liaise with external testing facilities to manage quote acquisition, scheduling, and secure necessary test slots.
- Oversee and manage relationships with external testing facilities, ensuring timely delivery and quality of services.
- Execute and support product testing activities, ensuring strict adherence to predefined test plans and testing standards.
- Prepare professional, customer-facing test reports that clearly articulate results, analysis, and compliance status.
- Conduct thorough root-cause analysis for failures identified during testing and collaborate closely with design engineering teams to rectify non-conformances.
- Assist in the design, develop, and deploy bespoke test equipment and custom test jigs to support and streamline internal manufacturing processes.
- Conduct comprehensive CE/UKCA compliance testing and analysis, compiling the necessary technical files for all REUK products
Essential Skills:
- A Higher National Diploma (HND) or Foundation Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience in a formal product testing or regulatory compliance environment.
- Demonstratable experience of translating complex technical requirements into structured, comprehensive test plans.
- Practical experience in validating products against industry standards.
- Strong proficiency in report writing and data analysis.
- Expertise in using diagnostic tools like oscilloscopes, power supplies, and digital multimeters.
- Familiarity with programming or scripting languages such as Python, C/C++, or LabVIEW.
- Strong analytical problem-solving capabilities with meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to articulate complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to read and interpret complex schematics, PCB layouts, and technical drawings.
Highly Desirable:
- Familiarity with MIL-STD and DEF-STAN standards.
- Experience of CE / UKCA marking of electronic products, including the compilation of comprehensive technical files and declarations of conformity.
- Technical exposure to electro-optic systems and their unique testing requirements, such as optical alignment and sensor performance validation.
- Experience in a manufacturing or lab-based engineering environment.
- Experience of using Altium Designer.
- Familiarity with Spectrum Analysers.
- Current or ability to obtain UK Security Clearance.
