The Executive Manager - Support Functions is responsible for providing strategic leadership, governance and oversight of engineering support functions within Product Management and Development. The incumbent will establish, implement and continuously improve systems and processes that support Configuration Management, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Product Safety, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Request for Technical Information (RTI), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), software control and other related engineering support systems. The role ensures standardisation, compliance and operational excellence throughout the product lifecycle while supporting the successful delivery of business objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and manage the Support Functions Department, ensuring alignment with the strategic objectives of Product Management and Development.
- Develop, implement and maintain Configuration Management policies, procedures and standards to ensure effective control of product configuration throughout the product lifecycle.
- Ensure effective integration and optimisation of Configuration Management within the Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
- Provide governance and oversight of Engineering Change Boards (ECB), Material Review Boards (MRB) and other engineering support structures.
- Develop, implement and continuously improve the Product Safety Management System, ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards and legislative requirements.
- Establish and maintain a structured Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methodology and ensure effective implementation across applicable projects.
- Develop and manage the Request for Technical Information (RTI) process and workflow, ensuring compliance with Arms Control Act requirements.
- Ensure compliance with company requirements relating to Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and associated regulatory obligations.
- Establish and maintain systems for the control and revision management of internally developed engineering software.
- Develop and coordinate training programmes relating to Configuration Management, PLM, RTI, Product Safety, FMEA and associated support systems.
- Monitor compliance with engineering support processes and implement corrective actions where required.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, standardisation and best practice across engineering support functions.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Project Management, Quality, Production, Supply Chain and other business functions to ensure integrated delivery and effective stakeholder engagement.
- Prepare management reports and provide strategic advice regarding engineering support systems, compliance, risks and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with Rheinmetall Denel Munitions policies, procedures and governance requirements.
- BEng Degree (Chemical Engineering preferred).
- Qualification in Systems Engineering and Project Management will be advantageous.
- Training in Aerospace and Defence Acquisition and Specification practices would be advantageous.
- Institute of Configuration Management (CMII) certification or the ability to obtain certification within one year of appointment.
- Business Management qualification would be advantageous.
- At least 7 years' experience within an Aerospace and Defence engineering development environment.
- At least 3–5 years’ experience in staff management, performance management, and leadership.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Configuration Management principles across the complete product lifecycle.
- Sound understanding of Product Lifecycle Management systems and engineering governance.
- Experience in developing and implementing engineering systems, standards and procedures.
- Strong leadership and people management capability.
- Excellent planning, organisational and project coordination skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
