Instrumentation Technician Intern

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:  The Instrumentation Technician Intern will gain hands-on experience by supporting the maintenance of Quality Engineering Systems and providing technical support across the entire product lifecycle. This includes exposure to process development, product manufacturing methods, design and research inputs, development, production, as well as product testing and qualification.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Assist to install, maintain, and fault-find instrumentation, control systems, valves, and PLC-based systems
• Assist to conduct planned maintenance, repairs, and overhauls
• Assist and learn how to diagnose faults using circuit diagrams, software, and instrumentation drawings
• Work with PLCs, VSD drives, and measuring instruments (balances, level detectors, temperature controllers, PH controllers, Mag-flow meters, pressure meters, vacuum gauges, distance encoders)
• Learn how to maintain accurate job cards, registers, and spares inventory
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards.
• Provide technical support to maintenance teams and liaise with planning for remedial work.
• Maintain high housekeeping and safety standards
• Adheres and implements Rheinmetall Denel Munitions Policies and Procedures and ensures compliance to ISO Standards with respect to SHE/Quality/Environmental/Energy.

• N6 in Industrial Instrumentation field or equivalent qualification.
• A valid Trade Test – Instrumentation/ Industrial Instrumentation.
• Basic insight in the step-by-step operations of machinery & processes.
• Good knowledge & understanding of field devices used i.e., sensors, level sensing, pressures, temperatures, etc.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
• Good fault finding and trouble shooting skills
• Be available for standby duties and overtime when and as needed.
• Must be able to work under pressure.
• Interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well at all levels.
