Position Overview

RBSL is working on projects to deliver training solutions for the British Army's new Challenger 3 (CR3) Main Battle Tank (MBT). Using Game Engines and 3D toolsets, we will be working with CAD, complex instructional and procedural data to deliver cutting edge interactive training solutions.

This role will report into the Simulation and Visualisation Lead .

What You Will Be Doing

As a Simulation and Visualisation (S&V) Programmer, you will be part of the design, development & integration of the Simulation and Visualisation capability. This is a varied role which will expose you to lots of different systems and opportunities.

  • Responsibility to undertake tasks to design and implement software solutions which simultaneously fulfil contractual requirements and contribute to cost-effective design.
  • Support in the validation of any software in systems, which may include the generation of test schedules, test and integration plans and the writing/investigation of technical reports.
  • Maintain organised project documentation
  • Maintain an up to date understanding of technical / engineering developments and apply this knowledge appropriately to the projects in hand.
  • Create gameplay systems, user interfaces, and data-driven training scenarios.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of development methodology and delivery pipeline.
  • Working with Customer, User, Engineering and Procurement teams to assist in resolving design queries, problems and conflicts.
  • Schedule own work to meet target timescales and deliverable milestones.
  • Perform self-verification of own tasks to ensure completeness and quality of information.
  • Provide engineering input to project submissions including cost estimating, project plans, and progress reports.

Essential:

  • Degree-qualified in Games Programming, Games Development, Computer Science or relevant games discipline with post-graduate experience in a suitable programming role.
  • Advanced knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 including (some not all):
    • UE5 Architecture
    • Custom tool creation
    • Gameplay Framework - Multiplayer/Replication
    • Debugging Optimisation – Unreal Insights
    • UMG Creation and Optimisation
  • Extensive experience of object oriented C++ development with knowledge of design patterns.
  • Knowledge of the full software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to identify and develop new software capabilities required by the business and maintain legacy products.
  • Good communication skills – capable of discussing technical solutions with non-technical colleagues.
  • Ability to work effectively with anyone with different skill sets, personalities, work styles,  or motivation level.
  • Ability to build trust, find common ground, have empathy, and ultimately build good relationships with people at all levels in both customer / supplier and RBSL communities.

Desirable:

  • Agile development experience.
  • Experience working with CAD data in Games Engines
  • Understanding of UML/SysML.
  • Visual Studio 2022/Rider IDE.
  • PlasticSCM/Unity version control.
  • Youtrack issue and task tracking.
