PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Firefighter will be responsible for assisting with compliance to RDM Policies and initiatives implemented to improve fire protection measures necessary for the protection of RDM assets, processes and employees (visual inspections of fire equipment, ensure fire equipment comply with the requisite standards, ensure serviceability of RDM Fire Department vehicles and equipment by doing routine inspections).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the FO (Fire Officer) with fire risk assessment for the relevant RDM sites in order to identify high risk areas and focus risk mitigation efforts.
- Coordinate the execution of the fire equipment maintenance program for fixed and portable firefighting equipment to make sure that all equipment is serviced and serviceable as and when required.
- Conduct scheduled visual fire equipment inspections on RDM sites to pro-actively monitor equipment serviceability.
- Perform standby duties during maintenance activities when required.
- Adequate response to fire calls on site or those threatening the site.
- Standby for high-risk activities (e.g. testing or munitions).
- Ensure all emergency vehicles are checked and kept serviceable.
- Ensure portable fire equipment serviced to SANS 1475-1.
- Ensure hydrants and hose reels serviced to SANS 1475-2.
- Ensure all sprinkler systems are serviced to the latest ASIB edition.
- Ensure all Carbon Dioxide systems are serviced to the applicable SANS 369.
- Ensure servicing companies have the requisite certification and registration for the fire equipment being serviced / repaired.
- Participate in Fire Department drills to maintain state of readiness.
- Conduct basic firefighting training for all site staff as per RDM Fire Guideline.
- Ensure general administration is completed as per instruction of CFO (filing, maintenance schedule updates, OB book updates, logbook & checklist updates / job cards / requisition follow ups, fire report information etc.)
- Facilitate local plant fire training as required.
- Adheres and implements Rheinmetall Denel Munitions Policies and Procedures and ensures compliance to ISO Standards with respect to SHE/Quality/Environmental/Energy.
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or NQF 4 equivalent qualification.
- Fire Fighter 1 (SAESI accredited).
- Fire Fighter 2 (SAESI accredited).
- Hazmat Awareness.
- Hazmat Operations.
- Pump operator course.
- First Aid Level 3.
- A minimum of 1 years of experience working in a manufacturing / chemical / production environment performing a similar type of role.
- Experience having worked in a Municipal / Industrial Fire Department environment.
- Proficiency in Outlook, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Basic level computer literacy.
- Code C driver’s license would be advantageous.
