Rheinmetall Weapons and Ammunition UK (RWM UK) is part of the defence engineering company Rheinmetall AG based in Germany. We design, manufacture and support military large-calibre weapon systems used by the British Army and international customers.
This is a rare opportunity to be part of something built from the ground up. You will join a brand-new, modern manufacturing facility, working in a clean, well-organised environment with the latest CNC technology and processes being set up from scratch.
The Skilled Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring manufacturing equipment including autofrettage machines, tempering furnaces, straightening press and bandsaw cutting machines.
Position Responsibilities
The individual will be responsible for:
- Set up and operate autofrettage equipment to apply controlled internal pressure to components according to process specifications.
- Operate tempering furnaces to perform heat treatment processes, ensuring correct temperature, soaking time, and cooling conditions.
- Operate horizontal bandsaw machine to cut gun barrels to required dimensions and tolerances.
- Operate straightening press to ensure gun barrels meet required dimensions and tolerances and quality standards.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, and technical specifications.
- Monitor and record machine parameters such as pressure, temperature, and cutting conditions to ensure proper operation.
- Load and unload gun barrels using appropriate handling equipment such as cranes or lifting devices where required.
- Perform visual and dimensional inspections to ensure parts meet quality standards.
- Perform routine machine checks, cleaning, and basic maintenance.
- Experience operating industrial machinery such as autofrettage equipment, heat treatment furnaces, or bandsaw machines preferred.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and process instructions.
- Basic knowledge of heat treatment and high-pressure processes is an advantage.
- Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting.
- Competent in using a wide range of hand tools and equipment
