“For me, as a former soldier, what makes my work special is that even after my active service, I can continue to support my comrades by contributing to the production of high-quality technology solutions for soldiers.”

How did your introduction at Rheinmetall go? What do you remember most?

The start of my training went very smoothly. I immediately got on well with the other trainees. We started with simple wire bending and soldering exercises and then moved on to increasingly challenging tasks. It was very varied and informative.

After completing my training here, I was already familiar with most of the company. I was given a very warm welcome in my department, “Production Services,” and especially in my project team, “Saphir” (we produce thermal imaging cameras for night vision in armored vehicles). I was gradually introduced to the individual work and testing steps.

What does a typical working day look like for you, and what do you like best about it?

The day starts with a friendly greeting to my team members. Depending on the progress of the order, various components are prepared, assembled, or tested. The device is then assembled from the individual components and undergoes a final inspection. The work steps differ depending on the model variant we are building.

What do you personally appreciate most about Rheinmetall as an employer, and specifically about the Stockach site?

I appreciate the job security and flexible working hours. After 15 years of commuting, the proximity to my home was also very important to me. Working on electronic and optoelectronic devices is one of the special features of the Stockach site and is particularly interesting for me. I like the fact that the site itself is not too big and that everyone still knows each other.

What advice would you give to someone interested in a job at Rheinmetall?

Apply quickly and be open to new opportunities.

„During my apprenticeship, I particularly like the fact that we work almost exclusively in the apprentice workshop. This allows me to directly deepen the theoretical knowledge I have gained at school. Our trainer attaches great importance to project-based work.“

Kilian

Trainee electronics technician for devices and systems at the Stockach site

Please tell us what makes your work as a budding electronics technician in Stockach so special.

What I like about my apprenticeship is that we are allowed to work almost exclusively in the apprentice workshop. The theoretical knowledge we learn at school is directly reinforced in practical experiments. Our trainer attaches great importance to project-based work. We program microcontrollers and design things like a digital tic-tac-toe game, temperature regulators with sensors, and testing devices for our products. Our testing devices are used directly in production and thus provide direct added value. I think it's great that the work we do on our projects pays off.

How did your induction at Rheinmetall go? What do you remember most?

In the morning, there was a reception for all trainees, the training manager, and HR. The company was introduced and we were told what to expect over the next three and a half years. This was followed by a trainee rally through the building, where we got to know all the departments and their employees. Over the next few days, we learned how to solder by building a small airplane.

What does a typical working day look like for you and what do you like best about it?

Every morning, the first thing I do is check Outlook to see what's on the agenda for the day. Then I continue working on my current set of topics. The topics consist of my own soldering project, assembling circuit boards with components, installation technology and VDE measurements, as well as basic metal training at the Tuttlingen Vocational Training Center (BBT). I am currently working on the electrical board, where I use practical experiments to build and analyze basic electronic circuits (e.g., Ohm's law, linear and exponential resistance ratios, coils, capacitors, amplifiers, etc.). This is the last topic before I move on to project-oriented work.

What do you personally appreciate most about Rheinmetall as an employer and specifically about the Stockach location?

I really appreciate that I get to work on projects that directly influence production. We also get exciting projects that come to us electronics engineers from quality control and development. Here at the Stockach site, we are a small company where all the employees know each other personally and communication channels are very short. We also benefit from the advantages of a large corporation: we have a secure job, work 35 hours per week, receive good pay, and get special payments.

What advice would you give to someone interested in a job at Rheinmetall?

Consider your interests and strengths and apply for one of the advertised positions accordingly. Our recruiting team reviews every application and forwards it to the relevant location and technical contact person.
