"What fascinates me most about the F-35 project is the opportunity to play an active role in one of the world's largest combat aircraft programmes. The high technical demands and the chance to build a new production facility from scratch make this a unique and extremely exciting challenge for me."

Comprehensive onboarding
For many of our applicants, working on a combat aircraft is very different from their previous jobs – that's why we rely on a professional induction process accompanied by digital onboarding. We meet you where you are. For example, mechanics (m/f/d) and other professional groups with no specific previous experience in the aviation sector can enjoy a smooth start at Rheinmetall in Weeze.
Some of our mechanics (m/f/d) also underwent training in the USA.
"The training at our partner Northrop Grumman in the USA was a milestone for me – both professionally and personally. For ten weeks, we were intensively prepared for the production of the F-35's centre fuselage sections and experienced exceptional teamwork, high quality standards and warm support. For me, it was a unique opportunity to be part of a project that is unique in Germany."
Production Mechanic F-35, Rheinmetall Aviation Services GmbH, Weeze
On 1 October 2024, we started as the first course with 18 colleagues at the training centre. The premises were already in place, but we planned and implemented the interior design – from cupboards to work tables – together. This allowed us to take on responsibility and contribute our ideas right from the start. We also completed an aviation English course, gained access to digital learning platforms and took part in intercultural training for the USA. At the turn of the year, the theoretical and practical specialist training began, which prepared us comprehensively for production.
Interviews – What is special about the F-35's area of operation?
"I really appreciate being part of something new, being able and allowed to help shape it. Building a new plant is always something special. But in terms of the production of centre fuselage parts for the F-35, it's also unique."
Process Engineer
After the first few weeks, I feel very comfortable at Rheinmetall. I have the feeling that a positive working environment is very important here.
I really appreciate being part of something new, being able and allowed to help shape it. Building a new plant is always something special. But in terms of the production of centre fuselage parts for the F-35, it's also unique.
I also really enjoy the intercultural exchange with our US partners. At the moment, my main task is to absorb the knowledge and working methods that have been successfully practised in the plants in the USA for years in the best possible way and to prepare them for our production facility in Weeze.
Travelling abroad to the United States is also part of this as we can exchange ideas directly on site at the stations, ask questions and get personally involved. A successful transfer is only possible through impressions from the shop floor.
Experiencing different ways of working and approaches as well as a different culture also enriches me personally.
"In my work on the F-35 project, I particularly appreciate the high technical standards and the green field approach. We develop processes to ensure efficient work in infrastructure, quality and logistics."
