Loitering Munition Systems (LMS) combine reconnaissance and strike capabilities in a single platform, significantly increasing firepower on the battlefields of the future. At Eurosatory 2026, Rheinmetall presents the innovative FV-014 loitering munition system. Also, Rheinmetall will unveil for the first time a multi launcher for its LMS FV-014, the Containerized Missile Launcher (CML). The world premiere will take place on June 15, 2026, at 4:15 p.m. at the Rheinmetall booth F115/F116. The CML is part of Rheinmetall’s reconnaissance and strike network.
The portable reconnaissance and strike drone FV-014 bridges the tactical gap between reconnaissance and conventional artillery directly at the troop level. Weighing approximately 20 kg, the ‘kamikaze drone’ features an aerodynamic wing design with a quiet electric propulsion system. A 360-degree swiveling gimbal at the nose enables the observation of potential targets over extended periods.
With a flight duration of up to 70 minutes and a range of up to 100 kilometers (60 kilometers data link range),
the system can operate safely from a distance. For precise target engagement, the drone is equipped with a highly effective HEDP (High-Explosive Dual Purpose) payload. This warhead is also manufactured by Rheinmetall and has a penetration capability of over 600 mm against armoured targets.
The FV-014’s advanced software architecture enables a single operator to control multiple drones in a swarm formation. Automated routines assist with navigation and target detection, while maintaining constant human-in-the-loop control. In addition, the drone operates reliably in scenarios with signal interference.
Controlled via an intuitive ground control station, the FV-014 integrates as a central operational element into the Rheinmetall Reconnaissance Network (AWV). In combination with systems such as the LUNA NG reconnaissance drone, a comprehensive situational picture is established to enable rapid engagement.
The drone, developed and produced entirely within the EU, is specifically designed for industrial mass production in high volumes. Following a successful demonstration for a NATO customer in February 2026, a framework agreement worth billions of euros signed with the German Armed Forces in April 2026
underscores the system’s relevance.
