Upgrade
Mobility
To increase the performance parameters of the drive, it is possible to integrate a new engine and adapt the powertrain for MARDER. Upgrading the drive unit to the new Renk/Liebherr system improves the system's mobility. Furthermore the upgrade of running gear including new road wheels, new tracks and new drives improves agility significantly and ensures long term ease of maintenance.
Lethality
To increase the lethality of the system MARDER, an ATGM launcher interface like MELLS or Spike LR1 can be integrated. Active support in the conduct of firefighting is provided by the integration of a laser rangefinder, which can be operated under hatch. For an higher hit probability and threat identification of the IFV MARDER a thermal imager, for example SAPHIR II can be adapted. Maximum combat effectiveness can be achieved by integrating an unmanned turret such as the 30-mm LUWA turret from EVPU, which offers increased firepower and penetration compared to the current 20-mm automatic cannon.
Commandability
The IFV Marder has modern operational command capabilities through the integration of a battle management systems and incorporation into the digital battlefield. The integration of modern driver vision systems like SPECTUS II or TRAILBLAZER, customized C4I with intercom system and antennas or the integration of a soldier system interface improves the commandability and international compatibility in battle groups.
Survivability
The IFV Marder system can be improved by integrating a mine protection plate, new fire extinguishing system, new passive protection elements. To improve the overall protection level it is possible to adapt softkill (MUSS) and hardkill systems (Iron Fist). All these features have significant impact on the crew survivability.
