The Role:

The Training Manager is responsible for ensuring that training for collective training equipment and site safety is developed, maintained, and made available through the appropriate training delivery platforms. The role ensures that personnel are appropriately trained in the safe operation, use, and basic maintenance of collective training systems and facilities delivered as part of the Army Collective Training Service (ACTS).

The role will coordinate the development and continuous improvement of training materials across a range of Products, Services, and Systems (PSS), ensuring training outputs meet operational and safety requirements.

Reporting:

This position reports directly to the Configuring Service Lead.

Job Description:

The Training Manager will be responsible for the development and maintenance of training packages supporting the use of military training equipment, systems, and facilities, such as Tactical Engagement Simulation (TES) capabilities.

Working as part of the Configuring Service Team, the role will coordinate the creation of a range of training materials appropriate to the products, services, and systems being delivered. These may include:

  • User support materials such as guides, webpages and PDF documentation.
  • E-Learning packages delivered through the Defence Learning Environment (DLE).
  • Instructor-led and face-to-face training materials supporting equipment and site safety training.

The role will work closely with equipment suppliers, subject matter experts, stakeholders, and end users to ensure training content is accurate, compliant, engaging, and aligned to operational and user requirements.

The Training Manager will support continuous improvement activities through the review of Training Audience feedback, incident reporting, and lessons identified, ensuring training and associated systems remain effective and fit for purpose.

Skills Required:

1        Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Ensure equipment and site safety training courses are developed, maintained, and published on the Defence Learning Environment (DLE).
  • Coordinate the development of user guides, e-learning content, and instructor-led training materials.
  • Identify gaps in existing training provision and develop plans to address them.
  • Develop plans to address gaps in current training provision.
  • Work with suppliers and subject matter experts to obtain and develop appropriate training materials.
  • Develop training content covering system interfaces, operation, and basic user maintenance activities.
  • Produce training materials and packages for new systems, equipment and training location.
  • Ensure all e-learning content meets required technical and accessibility standards, including SCORM compliance where applicable.
  • Support the delivery and coordination of face-to-face safety and equipment training activities.
  • Review and improve training content based on user feedback, incident reporting, and lessons identified.
  • Ensure training materials remain up to date as systems, equipment, and services evolve.
  • Maintain accurate training records, course documentation, and configuration control of training materials.
  • Support assurance, governance, and compliance activities associated with training delivery and safety requirements.
  • Promote best practice in instructional design, learner engagement, and digital learning delivery.

Skills:

  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, concise, and engaging training content.
  • Ability to simplify complex technical information into accessible learning materials.
  • Experience developing e-learning or blended learning content.
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Ability to work with subject matter experts and stakeholders to gather and validate training requirements.
  • Understanding of instructional design principles and learner-focused training approaches.
  • Ability to create assessments and interactive learning activities.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and workstreams.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a delivery-focused environment.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications and digital content development tools.

Desirable:

    • Knowledge or experience of the Defence Learning Environment (DLE).
    • Experience developing SCORM-compliant e-learning content.
    • Experience supporting technical, operational, or safety-related training.
    • Understanding of training needs analysis and training evaluation methods.
    • Familiarity with collective training systems or simulation-based training.
    • Experience supporting instructor-led or face-to-face training delivery.
