Position Overview
The successful candidate will support the first off pre-series Challenger 3 vehicles through vehicle management, maintenance of build standard records and root cause investigation activities, in order to ensure that vehicles are available for the conduct of trials and accurate records are maintained.
The Vehicle Owner will report to the Vehicles Team Lead, however when deployed on a trial will have a dual reporting line to the trials nominated Trial Manager.
The role will require a high degree of travel, to various locations around the UK and abroad including both civilian and military test sites.
What You Will Do
- Managing the Health and Safety culture on trials, through their actions and decisions. Including: reporting of Health and Safety incidents and near-misses through the business toolset; challenging behaviours and ways of working to ensure the highest standards of Health and Safety are maintained on trials.
- Maintaining accurate records of build state for their allocated pre-series vehicle, including tracking of LRU movements when maintenance is conducted and tracking of embodiment of design changes.
- Raising and supporting incidents (IN’s) on their allocated pre-series vehicle including presentation at Incident Sentencing Committees (ISCs).
- Liaising with the wider engineering team and root cause investigation team to support the Root Cause Analysis of failures and the development of suitable corrective actions.
- Support the nominated trials manager with the successful delivery of the trials plan through monitoring adherence to the provided Detailed Test Plan / Test Scripts.
- Responsible for the generation of Daily Running Records – in order to support information transmission from the trials site to the wider engineering team.
- Support the safe operation of vehicle through ensuring safety notices are adhered to.
- Support the correct operation of the vehicle through ensuring adherence to the operating and maintenance publications (crew handbook & AESP).
- Managing relationships with key stakeholders at all levels including; internal, Army, MOD and suppliers
- Ensuring that information and assets are handled in accordance with their security classifications and that Trial sites have adequate provisions in place to handle the classification of equipment.
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or have equivalent experience
- Experience in using the business PLM system: Teamcenter and the business ERP system SAP, for documentation and configuration control.
- Experience of working in a Systems Engineering environment, specifically verification and validation activities within the Military Land Equipment domain would be preferred.
- Experience using Rational DOORS for engineering requirements management, is beneficial.
- You must have experience in writing technical reports and presentations e.g. for technical progress meetings.
- Experience with the Challenger 2 platform design or operation, or other Armoured Fighting Vehicles, is highly desirable
- An understanding of UK Legislation and standards associated with Armoured Vehicle testing
- Must hold a Full UK Drivers Licence.
- Proficient user of MS Office is essential
In recognition of the important work of the Trials team, the Company will offer a daily £90 net payment as an alternative means to overtime and disturbance allowance for any employee, regardless of grade, supporting Trials (i.e., total value received after tax, unlike Overtime and Disturbance allowance). The payment is on condition of signing a working time opt-out form and a separate uplift agreement.
