Digitization

Systems and Products

In order to survive in the battle of the future, it is not merely weapons and troop strength that are needed. In view of new effectors such as hypersonic missiles or enhanced capabilities of unmanned aerial systems in terms of weaponisation and networking to form swarms, it is important to detect threats at an early stage and provide a rapid decision-making basis for response.

Digital networking of all troop units to enable access to information in real time will play a pivotal role in this. Artificial intelligence and machine learning will help to relieve users, shorten decision cycles, reduce personnel and increase effectiveness. The military commander's overview of the situation is condensed in such a way that the command process is accelerated and command posts become more mobile and smaller.

Our goal is to digitalise all systems on the battlefield of the future at platform level so that, for example, target identification, target transfer, target distribution and weapon selection can be automated in the system network. However, in accordance with the human in the loop principle, the decision on the effect is ultimately still made by the human being.

As a leading system vendor, we at Rheinmetall can cover the entire chain of effects from sensor to shooter – both platform-centric and cross-platform in the connected system network. As a system integrator for networking, we connect all players on the battlefield with each other in the sense of the architecture specifications of the D-LBO information and communication network.
