Weapons and ammunition
Rheinmetall is a global industry leader who is highly experienced in mastering the entire weapon and ammunition system. The division focuses on capabilities spanning large and medium calibre weapons and munitions, protection systems, propulsion systems, charge systems and propellant powders. Rheinmetall successfully combines world-class gun, ammunition, charge and fuse technologies to offer precise and effective solutions against enemy threats. And that for the areas of land, air and sea:
- The main armament of the Leopard 2 – the world's most effective tank –, the PzH 2000* self-propelled howitzer system, and an innovative new generation of enhanced range ammunition are just a few of the cutting edge products made by Rheinmetall. Moreover, Rheinmetall has been active in the field of laser weapon systems for many years. In the world of laser weapon stations and laser sources, Rheinmetall has laid the foundation for a future 100kW laser weapon system, demonstrating its fundamental feasibility.
- Coupled with state-of-the-art ammunition technology, the Millennium air defence system and the innovative SeaSnake weapon systems (CIWS), as the successor to the light naval gun with, among other things, an ABM function, make an important contribution to the self-defence of naval units against close-range air-sea and land targets. Rheinmetall's naval weapon systems can be easily integrated into existing defence systems.
- The portfolio also includes loitering munitions, aircraft bombs and warheads, aircraft cannons and smart ammunition. For example, the revolver cannon BK27 was developed according to the stringent requirements for NATO air forces for the use in the Tornado aircraft as well as the Eurofighter.
