The Division Air Defence combines aviation and air defence capabilities in a comprehensive system network in order to achieve and maintain air superiority. The business unit Aeronautical Systems offers the full spectrum of aviation services for fixed and rotary wing aircrafts and contributes to future capabilities in the dimension air. The business unit Air Defence & Radar Systems contributes to anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) and creates conditions for freedom of operation. Rheinmetall’s air defence systems protect ground and sea-based troops against threats from the air, in particular against the increasing threat of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in the context of modern warfare.

Air Defence & Radar Systems
Rheinmetall is one of the world's foremost producers of advanced short range air defence systems, especially in the field of cannon-based air defence for stationary as well as for mobile applications. This includes the increasingly important protection against small air threats such as cruise missiles, air-to-ground missiles, loitering ammunition and drones – including swarm attacks.

Aeronautical Systems
Rheinmetall is involved in the global F-35 programme together with its US partners Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin and will contribute to the modernisation of the German Air Force and friendly armed forces through the production of F-35A centre fuselage sections. Rheinmetall has also proven itself as an innovative partner to the German Air Force by taking over the inspection, maintenance, repair and overhaul of the CH-53G fleet.
