The core function of TaWAN LBO is to provide an open transport network for Federated Mission Networking (FMN) based on Protected Core Network (PCN) to connect the forward tactical D-LBO networks to the rear-echelon core network CIR. Following the contracts awarded at the end of 2024 as part of the Bundeswehr's Digitalised Land-Based Operations (D-LBO) programme, TaWAN LBO will be a further milestone for the end-to-end command capabilities of the armed forces. In connection with D-LBO, the TaWAN LBO network is to ensure connectivity deep into the rear area at high data rates.
As part of the TaWAN LBO project, Rheinmetall is also supplying protected 8x8 HX trucks from Rheinmetall MAN, which serve as carrier vehicles for the large directional radio systems and are equipped with mobile high extendable antenna masts.
One of the vehicles will hold the mast system; another will carry the 20-foot functional container with workstations, servers and other equipment. Rheinmetall MAN will be delivering a total of 102 vehicles.
Other vehicle platforms are used in conjunction with smaller mobile extendable antenna masts (small directional radio system). A software-based directional radio management system is part of the overall solution, which will ensure the functionality of the directional radio system, and can be used to plan and execute operations.
The LUNA NG is an uncrewed aircraft system (UAS) and the latest addition to the LUNA system family, offering real-time airborne surveillance, detection and tracking capabilities. With an ultra-light yet highly stable CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastic) fuselage, it boasts a flight time of over 12 hours, and its data link range of over 100 km enables it to cover more than 30,000 km².
The LUNA system's greatest advantage is its high level of flexibility during transportation and use. The compact ground station can be transported quickly by helicopter, for example, as it fits into small vehicles or standard cabins. The aircraft can be launched from almost anywhere, independently of runways, using a rope hoist catapult, and it can land autonomously using differential GPS or by parachute. During flight, the LUNA NG impresses with its low acoustic, thermal and radar signatures.
Modern conflicts are multifunctional, multidimensional and scalable challenges. Rheinmetall therefore proposes a multi-layer approach for interconnected and digitalised combat operations of the future. This integrative concept encompasses human intelligence and creativity as well as artificial intelligence, conventional weapon systems and unmanned systems. A core element for interconnecting all actors and systems is Rheinmetall’s new Battlesuite. The new digital platform for networked military systems is designed to enable armed forces to conduct operations with superior effectiveness. Rheinmetall will be presenting its new Battlesuite for the first time at the AFCEA trade exhibition in 2025.
The ability to interconnect conventional weapon systems with unmanned systems creates a synergistic effect that brings together the best of both worlds – the precision and flexibility of unmanned systems and the robustness and versatility of conventional systems. This enables holistic warfare, in which each system complements the respective strengths of the others and relieves the human operator. Rheinmetall’s Battlesuite is a core element of this concept. The Battlesuite acts as a central hub for data flow and decision-making, supported by state-of-the-art AI, powerful network architecture and robust cyber security protocols.
The Battlesuite is based on blackned’s Tactical Core – the operating system – and cleverly expands it with a theoretically infinite number of available or future applications, similar to the app architecture of a smartphone. The Battlesuite integrates both, products developed in-house by Rheinmetall and applications from strategic partners. This combination creates synergies and guarantees a wide range of possible applications to meet specific operational requirements. The result is a modular yet robust infrastructure that is both, forwards looking and powerful.
The Rheinmetall Battlesuite enables different users to exchange information in real time, thereby generating a constantly updated picture of the military situation. All units on the battlefield have access to the same information, which significantly improves their decision-making capabilities. More resource-efficient use of existing systems allows decisions to be made faster and with greater precision. Time, materials and personnel are used optimally, while the effectiveness of operations is increased. Digitalisation and networking not only strengthen operational flexibility, but also sustainability in resource planning and utilisation.
The HERO series of high precision loitering munition systems is designed to provide operating forces in the modern battlefield with the ultimate operational flexibility. They bring to the fighting forces unique independent fire capabilities combined with quality ISR, allowing them to locate, track and engage time sensitive low signature enemy targets at extended ranges organically and independently.
The HERO Loitering Munition loiters above the operational arena, locate and track the enemy, ‘investigate’ possible targets to help selecting the high value ones, choose the right timing, direction and angle of attack, and then performs a precise strike. HERO Loitering Munitions offer unique commonality, which allows all systems to be operated by the same ground operator unit and datalink terminal. All HERO Systems are designed to operate in challenging battlefield conditions, including GPS denied environment and communication interferences.
Fuchs 6x6 – Mobile Vertical Launching System
Together with Lockheed Martin, Rheinmetall is presenting a world first in the field of combat vehicles at the DSEI 2025 trade fair: the Fuchs JAGM is a highly mobile combat vehicle designed to combat a wide range of threats on land and in the air.
The FUCHS Evolution is the next chapter of Rheinmetall’s combat proven and reliable 6x6 FUCHS. Serving in more than sixty variants for more than nine nations, it has gained an excellent reputation worldwide. Featuring an improved drivetrain, a modern digital electrical vehicle architecture and significantly improved situational awareness and payload. The tank destroyer based on the FUCHS armoured transport vehicle is a highly mobile armoured tank destroyer for rapid deployment against enemy tanks and armoured vehicles.
It combines the vehicle’s proven mobility with a specialized anti-tank weapon and modern reconnaissance systems. With its 24 missiles, the vehicle is able to combat up to 24 battle tanks in quick succession without reloading. The launcher brings the Joint Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM) family of missiles and M299 launcher to vehicles and surface ships using designs and technologies from the MK41 Vertical Launching System (VLS). The mechanical structure and gas management system of the launcher, based on qualified VLS designs, optimize weapon density and ensure reliability and survivability in combat environments.

SSW40 is an automatic, magazine-loaded 40mm grenade launcher, designed for highest firepower in a shoulder-fired grenade launcher. Its dimensions, low weight and ergonomics make SSW40 extremely accurate and easy to handle over longer periods. The self-regulating dampening system allows SSW40 to fire 40mm MV-ammunition as well as 40mm LV-ammunition with minimized user stress, enabling:
- lethal effects up to 900m,
- increased first-hit capability,
- significantly reduced time-of-flight
SSW40 is capable to include Air Burst Capability using FCS-TacRay Ballistic (LRF with Ballistic Computer) in combination with IR-Programming Unit (IR-PU).
Laser light modules enable accurate target acquisition and target marking using a variety of illumination sources. In low light conditions or complete darkness, soldiers equipped with night vision goggles can use the infrared near-field illumination to illuminate their surroundings and illuminate targets. The IR aiming laser is used to mark targets even at long distances. The laser markers facilitate intuitive use of the weapon without using scopes.
Each laser light module has an attachment system that enables quick mounting on the weapon. All modules are designed for the most demanding applications and guarantee the user reliable and powerful quality during use.
Laser modules simplify the intuitive use of the weapon without sights by virtually extending the weapon's barrel. The very flat mounting height, which does not affect the line of sight, is a special feature of the laser modules from Rheinmetall Soldier Electronics.
